Mac is not supported by the current CB 20.03 or nightly release with being able to debug your compiled code via the debugger, so unfortunately if you want to debug please try codelite.

There are pages on the web that have info on how to run copdeblocks on a mac, but these only show you how to get codeblocks running and able to run your app, but not debug it.

codeblocks --safe-mode

to see if a plugin disabled by "safe-mode" is causing the issue.

To CB Dev why could I not find safe-mode documented in the wiki? Should it be in the wiki?

Search the forum for MacPorts and see if using a Macport version will get you further.

Yes, it should be there. I have just added it and other missing options, and removed some duplicates.

Safe Mode in Code::Blocks disables some plugins to help troubleshoot issues. When this mode is enabled, plugins needed for debugging, such as GDB, may be disabled, making debugging on the Mac impossible and making it difficult to diagnose errors.
