Suggestion to improve C::B
« on: December 30, 2005, 12:09:35 pm »
Hi,

I was just thinking about something to improve CodeBlocks for people under windows.
I am using CodeBlocks and Visual Studio and for the latter it exists a trick to add a context menu to open
a cmd prompt with all the env variables already set.

It's called VSNet2003cmdhere.inf and it looks like this :

;
; "CMD Prompt Here" PowerToy
;
; Copyright 1996 Microsoft Corporation
;
; Modified to launch VS.NET 2003 command prompt 5/6/03 MG

[version]
signature="$CHICAGO$"

[VSNet2003CmdHereInstall]
CopyFiles = VSNet2003CmdHere.Files.Inf
AddReg    = VSNet2003CmdHere.Reg

[DefaultInstall]
CopyFiles = VSNet2003CmdHere.Files.Inf
AddReg    = VSNet2003CmdHere.Reg

[DefaultUnInstall]
DelFiles  = VSNet2003CmdHere.Files.Inf
DelReg    = VSNet2003CmdHere.Reg

[SourceDisksNames]
55="VS .NET 2003 CMD Prompt Here","",1

[SourceDisksFiles]
VSNet2003CmdHere.INF=55

[DestinationDirs]
VSNet2003CmdHere.Files.Inf = 17

[VSNet2003CmdHere.Files.Inf]
VSNet2003CmdHere.INF

[VSNet2003CmdHere.Reg]
HKLM,%UDHERE%,DisplayName,,"%VSNet2003CmdHereName%"
HKLM,%UDHERE%,UninstallString,,"rundll32.exe syssetup.dll,SetupInfObjectInstallAction DefaultUninstall 132 %17%\VSNet2003CmdHere.inf"
HKCR,Directory\Shell\VSNet2003CmdHere,,,"%VSNet2003CmdHereAccel%"
HKCR,Directory\Shell\VSNet2003CmdHere\command,,,"%11%\cmd.exe /k cd ""%1"" && ""C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\Common7\Tools\vsvars32.bat"""
HKCR,Drive\Shell\VSNet2003CmdHere,,,"%VSNet2003CmdHereAccel%"
HKCR,Drive\Shell\VSNet2003CmdHere\command,,,"%11%\cmd.exe /k cd ""%1"""

[Strings]
VSNet2003CmdHereName="VS.NET 2003 Command Prompt Here PowerToy"
VSNet2003CmdHereAccel="VS.NET &2003 CMD Prompt Here"
UDHERE="Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\VSNet2003CmdHere"

As you can see actually if I right click on a folder in the explorer I can start a cmd prompt and the file vsvars32.bat is read.

Wouldn't be interesting to add in CodeBlocks, in the Tools menu a StartCmdprompt Entry that would launch a CmdPrompt ?
By this way it would be easier to compile wxWidgets for instance.

It's just a suggestion.

Hi,
you could set up a user-defined tool (Tools-->Configure Tools) like this:
(It will start a cmd prompt and execute my_batchfile.bat inside your project directory)

Klingon multitasking systems do not support 'time-sharing'. When a Klingon program wants to run,
it challenges the scheduler in hand-to-hand combat and owns the machine.
