Not able compile programs with Code:blocks

I am new to Code:Blocks.
I started a new project,created a C file,typed the program but when I compile it nothing is happening.
When I press build and then execute nothing happens.
I even tried C++ program but the same problem crops up.
What should I do to compile and run the program properly?
Can somebody please guide me through.
It would be of great help.

What OS?
What version/SVN of Code::Blocks?
What compiler and version of compiler?

If Vista or Windows 7 the compiler packaged with Code::Blocks 8.02 does not work with that OS!!

What compiler did/do you have installed?
What is the installation path to the compiler?

Got it.
I created a C file from the main page,wrote the code and tried to compile it but it didn't work.
But when I opened create a project and selected console application and did the same it worked.
