Title: Forum boards re-organized
Post by: mandrav on March 18, 2006, 10:12:04 pm
As you have probably noticed, the boards on this forum have been re-organized.
They 're more simplified now so hopefully it 'll be easier for everyone to choose the appropriate board for new topics.

Suggestions are welcome :)

Hello,

I find the new forum much more user-friendly and easy to understand as the previous one (which was ok, at least for me :D), especially for newbies.

As a suggestion, I think that it would be good to subdivide Using Code::Blocks into Windows and Linux (may be a third categories for other platforms, e.g., Mac) platforms. I find having all the platforms together is a bit confusing. Most of the time you cannot get from the title if the thread is for Windows, Linux or Mac platform. A user who search for something would have more difficulties in finding a solution/help/info.

Thank you very much for the very good job you have done by re-organizing the forum :D and with the development of Code::Blocks :D.

Best wishes,
Michael

I also think this would be better. There will be many pages with unread threads, if you not online for a longer time, what's really confusing. And it would be easier to post, when I know whether it's concerning win or linux. I don't use win so can only post on linux topics. Then the division into the platforms was/would be really helpful.

The rest is more userfriendly, especially the division between sticky and normal topics. And now all forums are on one page, you don't have to scroll  :D

First of all: I like the new organisation it's indeed clearer that the previous one.
There is one note I'd like to make:
In recent times I personally notice a lot of posts not related to C::B. While this shows that more and more users using C:B (which is great!) it also spoils the content of the forum as C::B forum, especially the search. IMHO a notice about posting C::B related issues only would fit well on the forum main entry point. At least the "General" description should include Code::Blocks in the description. To make it user friendly there could be links to "pure" C/C++ and wxWidgets forums...
Don't get me wrong: This is only my opinion, but maybe it's worth dicussing.
With regards, Morten.

I kind of disagree about the platform division by board, I kind of think it would be better supported by requiring all help posts to include platform and version information.  That way you can still only read linux posts if you want, and you never know, you might just be able to help a windows user out.  After all a goo chunk of those posts really aren't windows or linux specific, they are just general CB use posts and apply to all platforms. Now they are all in one place.

Hello!

I think I prefer forum boards the "new way" although I didn't have any inconvenience with the old ones: the "Show unread posts since last visit." link had its job well done!  :)

An idea of mine is that I would really enjoy a chat function added, for the users online, though I'm not sure this can be done or if it is "appropriate" for this forum. Maybe it won't be helpful for the project, only for getting to know each other better or spend some time between posting some real answers! :)

thanx!
