Title: Why not support Google talk?
Post by: xjluo on September 02, 2005, 05:07:53 am
In the profile editing page, ICQ/AIM/YIM/MSN are all supported. Why not support Google talk? I can provide gmail invitations if someone wants it.

Errrm... Google Talk beta is less than 1 week new, it's not likely a standard.
As the php software of the forum is SMF (http://www.simplemachines.org/) you'll probably want to suggest it to the SMF developers.
That way, any people using SMF will benefit from the inclussion.

Aside from that, it's very good news seeing that GTalk uses the Jabber open source protocol :)

Just a side note: Google talk is a good IM program, yet it uses open protocols, namely Jabber/XMPP with SSL authentication for instant messaging and XMPP extensions for voice (in the future they plan to use SIP).
So it would be sufficient to support the Jabber protocol.
