Moving to a new server
« on: February 26, 2007, 03:19:23 pm »
After our server had suffered just another downtime today, we decided to begin moving our sites to a new server.
This move has been planned for a while now so it's nothing to be alarmed about.

The forums and the wiki will be put in maintenance mode before the actual move starts. This means that they will either be inaccessible for a while or in read-only mode.

Finally, for the non-savvy amongst us, the move itself won't take more than half an hour. But the change in our DNS name ("codeblocks.org") will have to propagate across the internet. This process is not under our control and can take from 5 minutes up to 24 hours, depending on the region you live. The old sites will bear a notice about the move. When you check back and don't see the note, you can be sure you 're looking at the sites on our new server.

We 're sorry for the inconvenience but we do this in hope for providing a better service to the community :).
The Code::Blocks Team.
Be patient!
This bug will be fixed soon...

Oh! That's great. I'm seeing the forum and site remaining down several times a day for the past couple of weeks. :)

When will this DNS change occur?

Some time later today (i.e. when we are ready to begin the move). But I don't get it: what 's so important about when exactly the process will start?

Because
  • It may interest lots of people here.
  • I tried to download latest nightly (in case the server move would last much longer than expected), and it failed (but now retried OK).
