Have you got any information why they are down?

I found this recent message about Berlios, on another website:

for the most part it has been a great experience...
But the downtime.. man!. Their servers are always down.. if it's not the repository server, its the database server (used for the forums), or the web server... Boy.. Today, all of them are down simultaneously...!!

We have been granted a spot on SourceForge.net.. So we're moving.. ASAP!

Expect more downtime once berlios comes back, as we migrate everything over to sf.net. Your support through this process is greatly appreciated.

Sorry, what exactly are you trying to tell us? We'll not migrate back to Sourceforge. Been there, they're a lot worse than BerliOS.

Sure enough, those downtimes are annoying, and they are a lot more annoying for us than for you.
However, for something that you get 100% free, I guess you can't really complain. Most of the time it works just fine, and while it works, the service is quite good.

BerliOS is also not abusive in the same manner as SF. For example, regardless of whether the site is up or down, I cannot log into my SF account. This is a normal feature.
Why, you wonder? Because I run privoxy on the gateway, and SF does not let you login if you don't allow googleanalytics tracking and falk cookies and ads. The best thing is that you don't even get a hint about what may be wrong, they just show "login failed". I only discovered by accident one day when I had privoxy turned off for another thing.
BerliOS has no such nasty BS, which alone makes them a lot more professional IMO.
