Cant copy or paste from any source except firefox in a Debian KDE
(1/1)
Servius_deS:
Cant use copy/paste with C::B unless i copy from Firefox, will break down the environment details and the problem.
I am actually working from a Debian with kde (below the versions)
Operating System: Debian GNU/Linux 12
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.103.0
1 Copying and pasting from any C::B workspace to another works well
2 Copying and from any other application (kwrite,Konsole, stickyNotes) and pasting on C::B doesnt do anything, i can still copy/paste between any other of the said applications as long as Im not trying to copy/paste in C::B. In some cases, it sends just a white space but that happened once only,so Im not exactly sure about this last one.
3 Now the weirder thing, copying anything from Firefox works just perfect, i cant understand the difference, i tried other browsers and don't work, so its just Firefox!.
Im aware that there are already posts about not being able to copy/paste on C::B in KDE, but none of the solutions found there worked with me and none of them said anything about Firefox, os Im asking since its weird that only allows copy/paste from Firefox (and any C::B workspace/file).
As long as i paste what i want to copy on Firefox and copy it again it will work, but that iss a nuisance tbh.
I will breakdown the steps i did when i installed my Debian if it can help getting on the problem.
1- Got the last Debian stable version (12.6.0: https://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/current/amd64/iso-cd/).
2- Installed the system, without any desktop environment yet since i didn't wanted gnome but wasnt sure wich one get.
3- Decided to try KDE, which until now i kinda liked, so i installed the kde packet that is known to come with Debian, task-kde-desktop (https://packages.debian.org/buster/task-kde-desktop).
4- Installed C::B (apt-get install codeblocks-dev).
5- Open codeblocks, create a new file, copy text from any other application and paste it on C::B -> doesnt work.
6- Copy text from Firefox, no matter the text, paste it to C::B -> works.
7- Create an account on this forum and post this.
Miguel Gimenez:
This is a known problem with KDE, it happens with a lot of applications apart from C::B.
Searching for "kde copy paste not working" in Google gives lots of links; this issue looks related to some messed settings, so creating a new user usually works, and changing Clipboard to Klipper also seems to fix this.

Edit: Looks like the problem appears when using Wayland with Weston. This will be fixed in 3.2.7 and 3.3.0.
