I think it could be somehow a matter of preferences, but not only. Using a XSLT is not very difficult (it could be anyway :)), but it could be useful. In case of need, you just have to change it and not your code :D. XSLT is not a magical tool that can do all what you want, but quite practical and relatively powerful anyway.
