Open file from terminal doesn't activate the file on osx

I just noticed that on osx (10.9.4) if I do open "somefile.h/cpp" codeblocks(13.12) will open the file but it activates the editor file tab for the previously opened file. I'm currently on a osx machine but I do not recall that behavior on windows or linux. Is this a configurable behavior or simply a bug? Naturally I would prefer to have the file I just opened as the active tab.
