Build target type auto switches to "console" from "dynamic"

In a multi-project with multi-target workspace, when changing the option Project->Build_Options->Directories->Resource_Compiler from 'Append target option to project options' to 'Use target options only', C::B keeps changing my build target from "Dynamic Library" to "Console Application", or vice-versa. I think it requires a 'save project' for the auto-change to appear.

It does not do it every time I make a change, but it happens quite often and has become a real show-stopper for me.

This workspace was created by importing from a VS6 workspace.

Anybody else seen this? Is this a known bug or is it likely I am doing something wrong?
