I cannot disable spell checker, why

in settings->editor->spell check , the first line [ Enable online spell checker ] is clicked and disabled(grayed) , I cannot uncheck it , why?
How can I disable the spell checker ?
version svn 7385 win32

The only way I found to disable it was to disable the plugin via Plugins...|Manage Plugin. What that checkbox is for, god knows.
