On the main page when you click to download a binary release the very first large note on the page says
Quote
NOTE: There are also more recent nightly builds available in the forums.

Takes you straight to the 'nightly builds' section which is one of the main forum categories.  Go there.  Has instructions for downloading a precompiled build.

Just incase you cant figure it out from there....

1.  make sure you still have a COMPILER when you uninstall your current C::B.  i recommend This MinGW release.
2.  download the nightly build here.
3.  download the appropriate wxWidgets here and place it in the C::B folder you downloaded in step 2.

I think im gonna go check if we have a wiki article on this...

edit:  yup we do here.
edit2: updated wiki to include most recent nightly.

thanks ...
i allready saw this night builds and i did read there also something like..
"Normally they are pretty stable, but however they can introduce new bugs, regressions, and on the other hand they can introduce new features, bug fixes,"
i was not sure if they are stable or if they are like beta ... thats why i ask ;)

also the official download is pretty easy to install it contains MinGW and is somehow allready configured to work :)

i just ask to be sure ...
i am nw to all of this ... so thank you if you are patient with me ;)

i did download a tutorial for programming
then i did download VisualC ... but somehow everything was otherwise then the tutorial told me
so i did download dev-c++ ... there i had some problems with the compiler config
later i found dev-c++ with all integrated and preconfigured and everything did work well :D
then i did read that many people say C::B is great and that dev-c++ is in the zombie state ;(
so i did download c::b with all integrated :) and working :D

i did notice that it is realy cool but some things are not working ... like bugs
so i thoght maybe i have to update but have not found a official working release

so i saw this night builds and all the comments about bugs scared me somehow :(

after your post i am downloading now this tdm-mingw, cb_20100116 and wxmsw28u
i hope that it will just work without the need of anything and without bugs!

just because i dont realy know how i have to set up the compiler and so on

... to be on the sure side i will now write all compiler settings on a paper and so i hope i can restore them after the night upbate

maybe a little suggestion
to people as me totaly new to all this things, if i go to a site and see a download from 2008 i and i know that we have 2010 i will think that this app is out of date ... i mean its 2 years old
automaticaly i will search for the update and it not so simple to update as people maybe think
at least if i read about bugs in the night builds and downloading 3 different files and such things
i thoght maybe there is something that sounds more trusted then a kind of beta version
so maybe after 2 years its maybe a good idea to update the main download with a newer stable version ... i mean if it would be 6 month old i would maybe not think about updating but think that i am pretty up to date :D

but i will give now a try on what you told me :)
i hope it will work :)

Ok i did more or less what you said :D...

i did download the mingw and install it to C: ... sadly the installer was not able to find the stable 3x version so i did install the unstable 4x version which is recomented but they say not stable ... how ever
then i did download the nicht build of c::b and i did overwrite all old files with the new ones ... somehow i think that was not normal ;) i did open every folder and replace old and new files ... the template wizard was like never ending :( lol
then i did overwrite the wxmsw dll

i did start c::b and it did work ... some butons look otherwise i did more like the ol blue run or build and run buttons ... how ever my syntax highligs did appear again as also the recendent files :) it did also a autodedection of the compiler :D and the hello world did also run :D

so until now everything is OK :D
and if it will get unstable i will blame you :D ;) ;p

( hope that i never have to update again ... after overwriting all files in all folders my hand needs a break )

i was scared to loose something that is maybe nessesary :(

do you think that now something is wrong?
i did copy all files of every folder from the night build to the coresponding c:B folder and did click overwrite all
and its working
so i did not loose the docs which are in the official instalation file but not in the night build
and also the uninstall file is not lost which is not in the night build... and maybe some files more

i think the uninstall and the docs can maybe be usefull to me at a other time

but after i did copy all files i also think that the idea was more to replace the whole folder and not every file in all the folders lol

i was scared to loose something that is maybe nessesary :(

Mixing files of different software versions can lead to unexpected errors, becaue of incompatible libraries.

C::B does not save any configuration in it's executable folder or below.
It uses configuration files in the user folder.

OK with the next night build i will do what you suggest...
i will back up the uninstaller and the docs and then i will replace the whole c::b folder
then i will put the docs and the uninstaller back to where they should be...

but i realy did replace all files so all old files got overwriten with new files
so i hope now that if some thing is searching files in CB it will take the new one and if there is no new one it will maybe find a older one which was not replaced because it was not in the night build

i mean if i would have done as i should i would have loss my docs folder too
now i still have it ... somehow i did also abuse the docs folder for some additional help files, they would be also gone now

...maybe interessting would be...

can i put the Docs folder, the Localization folder (with translation of CB) and the Template folder to the User\appdata folder?
if i do so will CB find the templates, the docs and the Localization?

that would be perfect :D
