Setting UP C::B Tutorial - Dummies et al
« on: October 25, 2009, 05:51:28 pm »
1)  I am about 24 hours into learning C++ and the people here have troubleshot my first roadblock.  Thank you.

2)  I have notice that the post chronologically RIGHT after mine, had the exact same problem as I did, and came from the same source: C++ for Dummies.

3)  I have also noticed that Jens has stated a "Use the Search Engine" answer.  I understand it is taxing to repeat the same answer for the newbs.  But when I used the search engine, I noticed that some of the found threads were locked without answer due to repitition/search engine non-use and others had answers of variable usefulness.  In truth, I would still be stuck if I hadn't gotten a followup explaination of what a "toolchain" was and where it was set.

Therefore I ask the experts here might it be a good idea to author a simple Setting Up C::B for Newbs Tutorial?  Given that the Dummies book and also (I believe) a straight download from the internet of C:B 8.02 will cause this error for all newbs?

Note that I came to C::B from

http://www.cprogramming.com/code_blocks/

Which IS a tutorial for C::B installation by newbs but I still had my problems as Step 3 the AutoDetection window does not happen as described.  Also Dummies assumes no problem in installation.

If you feel this is a common problem, I would be willing to write the simple Tutorial, if someone would proof it to make sure it is generic enough to be useful.

Is this a common problem for newbs, or am I a 6sigma kinda guy?

Thank you

agus

I'm in the same boat....using a Mac and can't seem to get codeblocks to work.

It now sees the compiler, but I am now stuck.  Just trying to start a new project.  Select Console app, but in the next screen it never creates the Source.

Is this an issue with OS 10.5??????

FYI:

When creating the directions I suggest reading this link and maybe making it more simple.

http://wiki.codeblocks.org/index.php?title=Installing_a_supported_compiler

And, after you do it I suggest a link/entry in the FAQ.

Note, I thought about doing the above; but, I can never cause the problem to happen doing what I think is clearly right. But, that is with most nightly builds not the C::B version you are using.
