why codeblocks should be setup with subversion ?

when I setup the codeblocks  in my redhat 9.0 OS with the command make install ,it aways prompt me to install the  subversion  and  wxGTK first,why should them be used togother? I have test that it run all right in my WINDOWS XP operation with the codeblocks setted up alone !
