Googling "0xc0000235" produces a bunch of messages that imply that there is a conflict between accesses to some dll's and anti-virus updates.

Google "0xc0000235". You might find a situation matching yours.

Thanks. I guess Avira AntiVir (which I also have installed) has messed something up with some of their updates. I hope this gets fixed soon.

edit: got a solution from https://forum.avira.com/wbb/index.php?page=Thread&postID=1031807 .. thanks for the tip, Pecan!!
