Hi All,

After ~2 days (and some trouble in building Code::Blocks and wxWidgets 2.9.4), I have finally managed to install Code::Blocks 10.05 and wxWidgets 2.9.4 on my computer (which runs Windows 8 Developer Preview, Evaluation Copy Build 8400 and Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 RC), hence both of these programs (i.e. Code::Blocks and wxWidgets 2.9.4) should be compatible with Windows 8 :D.

Best Wishes.

Hi All,

Sorry for the typo error in my previous post - it should read 'Windows 8 Release Preview', not 'Windows 8 Developer Preview'  :-[. I've just noticed this error when logging into the Forum today (posted this post last night, and was half-asleep ...  :().

I sincerely apologize for the error.

I don't fully understand your post: Is there a question, or are you just saying it runs under Windows 8?

Hi Morten,

I apologize if the previous post wasn't clear.

No, it wasn't a question - it's just a note to say that C::B 10.05/wxWidgets 2.9.4 runs in Windows 8 Release Preview (I've changed the title of this post to reflect this as well).

Thanks.

I tried installing Code::Blocks 10.05 with MinGW the day the customer preview came out. Took 3 mins though, not 2 days.

It (unsurprisingly) worked fine, for as good as anything works under FacebookTwittOS Windows 8.

OT: I did not even have a look into the customer preview... no glue what's going to come. I just watched funny videos on YouTube from elderly people how got really angry on it because they could not find the "Start" button. That was really funny... ;D

Are you saying I'm elderly?

Seriously though, I wonder where user interfaces are going (Windows 8 is only following and "perfectionizing" the path of stupefied tablet interfaces crammed onto desktop machines that Unity and later Gnome 3 started). The mere fact that colorful buttons for Facebook and Twitter along with a direct link to XBox shop are the most revolutionary feature of the next OS generation lets you seriously doubt the intelligence and sanity of the developers.
Or, who knows, maybe the vast majority of computer users is really as dumb as that. I'd like to say "time will show" but time will only show that people will buy Windows 8 anyway, if for no other reason because it will be bundled with every new PC. :-\

That implies that you are the one in the videos! :o ;D ;D ;D

I am using my own interfaces with Windows since ages anyways (never used "Explorer" for example), so as long as stability improves and I can have a "fancy icon" for my 3rd party software I am fine.

The problem I have with the new windows 8 tiles is that I get "Brady Bunch" flashbacks...

Well, the "Brady Bunch" feeling is probably ok if Facebook is all you use your tablet toy for.
It's a different matter if you want to do something productive, and even less if you have a real computer.

...if you have a real computer...
What real computer? There is not such thing, all computers in the world are touch capable, have small display and no mouse.
There is revolution in progress, the same as the migration from the mainframe+terminals to the PCs <end of joking>

Seriously: What worries me is how are developers are supposed to develop with these touch displays? When I use touch displays usually 10% of what I type is wrong because I didn't exactly hit the right letter on the virtual keyboard. This scares me to death and in fact will definitely prevent me from buying a "real computer" w/o a real keyboard... so everything with "PAD" in the name I'll avoid for sure. :P
