About Scientific Referece of Code::Blocks
« on: August 13, 2010, 07:59:27 pm »
Hi,
I'm a brazilian Civil Engineer who makes an Master at ITA - Instituto Tecnológico da Aeronáutica, on the state of São Paulo.
On my thesis I've used Code::Blocks on a little routine.
On this way I would like to discover with you what kind of scientific reference I may put for Code::Blocks on my thesis, witch text follows this model:
author, title, place, editor and date.

It takes part of the obligations on writing my thesis at ITA.
I hope you can help me,
Thanks in advance

I'm afraid C::B does should not be a hard reference in a master theses at all. As it is just a tool it has nothing to do directly with your master thesis. In fact I've never seen ANY reference to a software like that in bachelor-, master- whats-o-ever thesis.

I would recommend you mention Code::Blocks in the chapter when needed and place a footnote with a like to http://www.codeblocks.org on that page. Just on the first page you (need to) mention C::B.

Ps.: You haven't been in Germany for the thesis work?
Compiler logging: Settings->Compiler & Debugger->tab "Other"->Compiler logging="Full command line"

Hi,
Thanks for help me.
In fact the rules on ITA say that I can't use footnotes on the choice of referencing that i've made.
Additionally, if I show any web site adress on the text, it must to be mentioned on the References list. So, I have a problem hehe.

PS.: I'm not from Germany, but from Brazil

Hi. I'm with MortenMacFly on this one, I don't think you have to cite the word processor you are using to write your thesis either, and with regard to the code you are writing code::blocks is just one tool among many (actually, the best of them, but that's another story<g>) that you could be using, that has no bearing on the *authorship*.

If by any means your supervisor forces you to, I'd suggest using the ABNT rules for electronic documents:

http://www.leffa.pro.br/textos/abnt.htm#5.16

So you'll have something like:

VÁRIOS. code::blocks v. 10.05, 2010. Disponível em: <http://www.codeblocks.org/>. Acesso em: 15 ago. 2010.

HTH,
Ken
FWIW: Just so that you don't think I'm pulling stuff off my rear end, for the record: I am a Brazilan academic and by chance I just participated in the CAPES evaluation committee of my area (Public Health). :)

Although I don't completely understand, but that might do it.

Better? ;)

The Brazilian equivalent to US's ANSI has norms for citing stuff in academic work as well. I just put the information in the mandated format.
