Autocomplete in "Open" dialog
« on: January 05, 2010, 05:16:17 am »
The autocomplete "feature" in the open dialog box is really annoying.

This is where you go to File->Open, or push CTRL + O.

You have to delete the initial name that's in there (why isn't this blank to begin with?), and then when you start typing, the autocomplete feature kicks in and completes the file name even though you're still typing past it.

Does anyone know how I can turn this off?

That's a "feature" of  your OS as far as I know, because wxWidgets uses the native dialogs of the OS'es it runs on.
So even if it can be turned of, nobody can help you with this less information.

I figured it out.

For some reason, there is a box with a picture of a pencil and paper and the tooltip "Type a file name" that brings up what looks like Window's address bar that has the "feature" that I described.  Clicking it off and simply pushing keys produces the desired results - it doesn't look like there is anywhere to type, but typing anyway brings me to the file name I'm typing with the behavior I'm used to.

This might be a new Kubuntu thing (it just updated itself, hence my need to switch developing environments).
