Title: Source safe repository
Post by: Alfred96 on November 06, 2018, 03:33:07 pm
I am relatively new to Code::Block having come from a Microsoft development environment. I have to say I am very impressed.

The only feature or plug in I have not found is a code repository, or source safe that I can run on my local network. I want / need / am used to / being able to check in and check out various builds and manage the development process. I am sure there must be something out there so any suggestions would be gratefully accepted.

To those who had a part in developing Code::Blocks, well done!

Outside microsoft this is called "version control"  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Version_control (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Version_control)
and there are TONS of software out there. Probably the most used is GIT https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Git (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Git) but there is also SVN, mercurical and Bazaar. For git any folder in your network can be a "source safe", or you run dedicated server software on an server.

This is not heavily integrated to codeblocks, because there are tons of tools out there that make this better: (for git and windows for example: https://tortoisegit.org/ (https://tortoisegit.org/) )
There are multiple git plugins for codeblocks out there, but you will have to compile them by yourself, and i do not know how good they work: https://github.com/tomolt/GitBlocks  https://github.com/katajakasa/cbgp

i personally prefer and use the command line for git...
