Hi, I'm new to all this, I messed around with basic and qbasic way back in high school. Seen alot of things, heard alot of things, want to get back into the whole programing game. Would love any advice anyone can offer. I'm a very quick learner, self teacher mostly.
-
I am not a human and i'm not here; i'm an angel! :D
-
Here and curious regarding the number of user.
Experiencing a discontent with Microsoft and Apple's IDEs.
-
I be human. Decided to try C++. Haven't done any programming in almost 30 years. IDEs, Linkers, debuggers all new to me. Did a little work on a console back in the day. But most of my programming was on punch cards.
Have a Great Day,
Jim
p.s. is there a good place/site or whatever for those who know next to nothing (and I do mean next to nothing) about all the stuff related to Code::Blocks? In specific I would like to know how to add a library that I will want to use in a program.
-
In specific I would like to know how to add a library that I will want to use in a program.
Usually this thread is not for questions, hence the book "C++ for dummies" actually utilises C::B to teach from "next to nothing". However, there might be better/other/free choices. Still: A book (including a CD with sample sources, probably) would clearly be my #1 choice.

Whereas, the author of this reply is human, he hereby submits to such procedure which in ages past was considered unthinkable and absurd by learned civilized people. Furthermore, [segmentation fault]

I'm new here.
I have been programming off-and-on for years (informally) learning things that interest me via tutorials/books. Currently diving into C programming (not C++ yet), while simultaneously absorbing whatever information I can about compiling, compilers, linkers and IDEs.
I hope to learn enough to be able to contribute to the community soon!

Hello All.
I am here and I am NEW as in ... member and ... cpp programmer. You don't really want to know how "young" I am :-) but I've always wanted to learn to program in cpp but have never gotten to do it. I've seen programming languages come and go but cpp has always been here to stay. It has kept up with the "times". Unfortunately I haven't. So can someone be kind enough to point a beginner like me to the right direction. I am more inclined to learn well with a learn-by-example type of instruction.
Your inputs are highly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm a zOS guy (Mainframes). Learned C/C++/JAVA in college but I'm pretty much novice in these now. I'd like to learn them more deeply now and possibly will move on to Game-programming soon.
Thanks for allowing me to be the part of this Forum, appreciate it.
Have a good one,

OK, been a programmer since mainframes ran on steam, know nearly nothing about new-fangled PC technology but interested in learning. Have a project I'd like to program, a microcontroller based encoder for a radio control transmitter for model aircraft. I bought an stm32f4 discovery board because I was blown away by the list of features (most of which I didn't understand, but there was certainly a lot of them) but mostly for the numerous ADC inputs, and existing code (for Arduino, but presumably nearly the same for any C/C++ based machine) for generating a PPM signal that can be passed to a 2.4GHz transmitter module. The one I am looking it is the Frsky module set. And of course the price. I paid aud25 for mine. How can you go wrong at that price? I also bought a Chipkit max32 before I discovered the stm and have been happily making leds blink on it using the mpide. Pretty naf looking ide to me, but what do I know?
Haven't yet been able to discover if I can program the stm32f4 with code blocks, there seems to be more to C++ than meets the eye (not like when I were't lad, and Cobol was king). I'm hoping I just need to add some libraries somewhere and everything will work. Don't really fancy the idea of installing a "tool chain" (whatever that is) or Eclipse and other various and sundry parts. I like the KISS principle.
Anyway looking forward to lots of good advice from the gurus here, and reporting my success to the forum!
Cheers,
Ian

Hello, my name is N.Y.K.. I am in fact a human being ,stoned and love c++. You whom have just read this post and asked themselves, "did he just use "whom"?", among other thoughts. Unfortunately I do not know whether I used the word,"whom", correctly or not at this time. @ some point in time I shall once again go find out. I think of stupid things and I ask stupid questions. I only ask that you be kind and be yourself. If 'yourself' is a rude person I accept that and may at some points in time verbally joust with you. I have been on the INTJ forum though I do not frequent there anymore as I have forgotten my password. if you have read the entirety of this introduction, thank you.
-
Hi. I am human, yea..
Also, I put "CPP" for the answer to that question about the language upon code::blocks was made.. and it said i had it wrong :/
Don't expect me to post too much... x)

I am new, I am here. I'm currently switching from several years of Win-specific dev to cross-platform one (knowing I'm a Linux user - Ubuntu/Fedora -, but totally not a Mac OSX one - hoping I'll succeed to target it nevertheless). So, last weeks, I've tested Qt w/ Qt Creator (don't like this IDE spirit), Ultimate++ (lack of Mac and a little bit shorter for big projects) and wxWidgets/Code::Blocks.
I've finally decided to adopt C::B/wxSmith/GCC/wxWidgets ;D Because of its (this IDE/lib pair) wide of targets, its community, extensivity and opening of Code::Blocks, because of the fact wxWidgets relays on platforms native GUI layers, and because of LGPL license of this lib (really smart for an independent).
My main dev station is under Windows with Linux/OSX in VMware machines. My firstname is Eric :)

Hi! I am new here. I would like to make a new project script/wizard for the Freescale m68hc12 gcc compiler with the GNU Embedded Library (GEL), both ported years ago by Stéphane Carrez. Previously I used the EmbeddedGNU IDE but it's not as nice as Code::Blocks. It doesn't look like there is anything like this yet.
I will be posting in Embedded Systems as I go.
All the best

I am a real human user, not a bot....
I have been using Code::Blocks for several years now. Just finished migrating all my systems to 10.05 from 8.02... I use this IDE for cross-platform development of debuggers and tools for embedded DSP development. I use wxWidgets quite a bit for several projects.
Replicants need not apply.

"I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You're a plague and we are the cure. I am new, I am here.
I am a human. Although, to be frank I do not know if I am in the level zero of the universe reality or if I am just a simulation running in a computer.
Consider this, doing a simulation of the universe will or will not be possible to do one day.
Assuming that one day it will be possible, what is more likely, that we are one of the few species which evolved to the level of having technology to simulate the universe or that we are one of the billions of simulations running out there ?
Thanks for Code::Blocks.
Mau.

I am new. I am here.
I am new to cpp programing. I am getting several error messages when
trying to build a program.
Is there a help source for the different build errors and what generally
causes the errors? Or do I have to search for help on a specific error?
For example I get: D:\CPlusPlus Programs\BlankProject\main.cpp||In function 'int main()':
D:\CPlusPlus Programs\BlankProject\main.cpp|40|error: expected primary-expression before ']' token
Thanx for any help.

Hey guys 'n' gals, I'm someone who started programming back in (gasp) '65, actually writing a mainframe program.
I've done 360 Assembler, Cobol, fortran, C, Pascal, APL, and invented the Xmodem protocol that got many early computer hobbyists "online" in the last 70's, and with superb hardware hacker Randy Suess, invented the Bulletin Board System in '78, giving people something HOBBY based to call in to. .
SO after tens of thousands of lines of assembler, I finally graduated to a bit of Pascal, C, etc, and can "learn under the duress" of needing something small, pick up some Perl, or VBA, or whatever. (I NEVER NEVER could understand PROLOGUE, with its goal seeking, etc).
I'm now a retired IBMer after 44 years, and wanting to program in something other than my beloved KEDIT macros, and being quite ADD and etc have trouble focusing on really comprehending "Object Oriented".
I learned the "fundamentals" of Windows programming thanks to AUTOIT3, i.e. the idea of putting stuff out there and waiting for the OS to tell you someone did something with your GUI interface.
I am struggling terribly with Code::Blocks and wxwidgets, for while a quick install and sample program worked great in console mode, there's always something funky with wx like finding "Oh, you have the wrong library" (unknown unwind something). Right now I'm wondering if I can't have compiled wxwidgets to another DRIVE than C::B and gcc etc are installed on - for copying the directories from E: to C: some things started working.
I'm also confused by the plethora of places you can poke in your path, (haha) i.e. "set environment variables", then "settings" for compiler, linker, etc. So right now I have wxmsw28d_core undefined in the linker, but I compiled with 2.9.4, but I see nothing *_core except wx_core.dsp, so I become lost again.
QUESTION: In searching documentation, some of it is dated, and points to older versions, so I would like to take my struggles and document them, as to the steps to follow, etc. There are too many things in the current documentation that say things like "check your config files" which is aimed at someone who has done this many times before, i.e. KNOWS WHICH CONFIG FILES, etc.
Good to be here! Looking forward to learning more.

Hi, I used to a little programming in the 1980's as a teenager in the BASIC language, (it really was basic).
I used to have an Amstrad CPC 464, it was top notch back in the day, green screen or colour monitor, 64k RAM, built in audio cassette deck. It was awesome. In the manual you had several programs and games you could type in, magazines full of codes.
I loved the fact that most programs could be broken into. The magazines included pokes, these were little bits of code that could be included into a game that were basically game cheats, but it was a lot more interesting to break into the program yourself and work out how to give yourself extra lives, slow down time, even change graphics, various different things that would give you advantages. I enjoyed gaming an experimenting with code.
Then came consoles. The NES, Sega Megadrive, PS3 1,2,3, and a few others in between. The PC became a bulky tool that sat in the corner. Both seemed to become objects others wrote software for you to exploit, rather than for you to easily play around with. To do programming courses involved money, time, and expensive books. All things I didn't have at that time.
Now days with code blocks, masses of free info on the net, and affordable books coding has become something you can put as little or as much money and time into as you want, whether it be at college or home. For years I've wanted to take up programming again, I just wished I'd known about code blocks years ago!
Sorry about sending the Kaspersky Fix post before this, I though it was important info, and notice this thread until today.
I hope this goes some way to proving to you, and me that I am Human! :D

Greetings from New Zealand, I am a C++ programmer from the days of Borland C++ Builder which was the ultimate Rad tool, until Microsoft pinched its technical expertise and incorporated it in Visual Studio.
Hope to investigate CodeBlocks to see how it shapes up running under Linux Mint 14.
Nice to be on board.

I'm here because I took some classes about programming and I really liked it! :)
Right now I know almost nothing about this stuff, but I'll try and do my best to learn it without putting fire to the forum, I hope some day I'll become a developer too.
So wish me luck!

I'm a real person... OR AM I -Mwahahahahahaha-
No JK I'm real
-
;D I too, am human/not 'bot.
About two dozen years ago, my work sent me to a 'C' programming course. Taught on OS/2, no less! My programming here was all done in Visual BASIC and Clipper on the PC and a COBOL-like language called PowerHouse on the VAX. As I near retirement, it's time to start thinking about my next gig. (Men in my family don't last long in retirement. Being out-to-pasture just doesn't seem to work for us.) Anyway, I'm getting back into Linux, and I'm thinking that competence in 'C' would be a good thing to have.
Been working with computers since 1980, and I was born country, so that's where the Ol Country Tek moniker comes from.

Hello, I am here..
-
Hi! I'm a 23/F from New Zealand. The idea of programming interests me, and I'd like to know more! I did one paper at university covering comp sci basics in Java, but it was just an interest paper before finishing an unrelated degree. I've heard that C/C++ is more useful than Java, so I'm going to give this a go.
Are there any resources/tutorials/practice problems that you would recommend? I have C for Dummies, but that's the only book I have on the subject, haha.
Cheers :)

I am definitely new. I just installed a bunch of compilers on my computer and will probably have to set up paths in strange ways to make them all work at the time I'm using them (all at the same time is probably asking too much of them and me). 8)
Anyway I installed Qt, Open Watcom (C and Fortran), LCC, TurboC, and a bunch of other things.
Why did I do all that crazy stuff? I guess it's because a "carpenter can't have too many hammers!" ;D

I'm new too. I had some trouble getting Code::Blocks to install and compile at first. The second time I installed it, it worked fine. Still don't know what I did wrong the first time.
Is there a user's guide for Code::Blocks? I can't figure how to step through my code yet.

Greetings,
I am new to the forum, but have been using Code::Blocks for the past 7 years. I currently use C::B svn build rev 9156 with wxWidgets 2.9.5 static unicode on Xubuntu 12.04 LTS AMD64. I am using gcc 4.6.4 as my Linux compiler, and MinGW's gcc 3.20-2 for cross-compiling to WinXP thru Win8.
Most of my apps are database related using MySQL 5.5 or SQLite3 3.7.16. The latter with wxSQLite 3.0.3.
I haven't cross-compiled my first OS X app yet, but am gearing up for it. I also haven't done a lot of graphic intense apps, but that's what tomorrow is for.
I hope this satisfies the BotenAnna problem.

Back to Code::Blocks, I just keep stumbling upon things which will take some time to learn, and I'm not sure where to find them....
Ex: I don't understand how the compiler (so not really a Code::Blocks question) finds its file paths, SPECIFICALLY, when there is a "something/somethingelse" In searching the forums, it talks about (paraphrasing) path_where_QT_installed/include .... and saying "so the code is #include QTBASE/something (sorry not remembering it). BUT QTBASE was not mentioned anywhere. Is there a "#define QTBASE "d:\blah blah\blah..." (in windows?)
I found pointers to "look at the compiler variables and you'll find what you need", but then I see $(something) is where it is.
Uhhh, I don't know what a $(something) IS, nor where you set it, etc etc.
NET NET: most answers assume a rather thorough knowledge of (Linux? Code::Blocks, etc?) and are too "shallow" an answer.
I know this is the wrong place to ask, but I've not found the answer in lots of searches (tho I HAVE gotten a LOT to run).
>>> ALSO, where's the best place to discuss the intersection of wxWidgets, Code::Blocks, etc?

I am new, I am here. Using C:B for fortran. When the cursor is stationary there is this pop-up help which should be there, but is present even when typing. The message "parsing at the moment" covers the material being typed which is no longer visible. This is irritating. Pls fix it. Maybe allow for a longer delay, or monitor keystrokes and make the message disappear when a key is struck.
Thanks.

Hi Everyone,
Recently, I obtained a copy of C++ Primer Plus Sixth Edition which discusses in depth C++11 and then I made a Google search for "c++11 best ide" which is how I came across Code::Blocks. I like the layout of the IDE and website and I am thrilled that there is an embedded forum.

Heyyyyy!
I'm a new member to Code::Blocks!!!
I am reading C++ Primer Plus Sixth Edition and decided to do a search for 'cp++11 best ide' which is how I came to find out about Code::Blocks... Seriously!
By the way, after installation I couldn't build/run a project and then I realized that the version I had downloaded did not include a compiler. So I uninstalled and re-downloaded from the 3rd link (4th link is also valid).

Hello all I am a newcomer to code-blocks and C++. i have tried several times with different
compilers but don't have much luck including this one. i am not an expert in de-ciphering
the way to open and save projects. In the bloodshed free compilers my first projects work
fine but after saving they all seem to melt into one. E.G. project 1-6 were all project 1 can anybody explain in simple laugage where to put the projects and how I seperate them. alan.

I am me. I have several forums setup and do NOT have a spammer issue anymore, I'm trying to convince TurboCAD to dump SMF due to the number of x-rated spammers that get into the system, no luck so far, I even offered to set up the new forum and migrate the users but no.

Thank you!

I'm here. I retired over 20 years ago, and have done little programming since. Seem to have forgotten most of what I knew, and even back then I seldom interacted with an IDE... mostly command line stuff.
So Code::Blocks is a new experience for me, and a bit bewildering... I cobbled together a .C file, told it to make a project of it, found a "build" button to click, and it made me an executable program. One that works. Magic. But now I need to find out some of what happens under the covers when I click build, since I want to change something about what it links together. And it isn't obvious where to look.
Anyway, hi all... :)

GE everyone,
I just joined the forum and am interested in getting back into programming. I have a fair amount of experience programming in the old C language, 16bit assembly and a little pascal. I have never programmed in C++ and found visual studio 2010 which a friend gave me when he purchased a later version. In fact I spent the evenings of the last two or so weeks trying to figure out how to write and compile a simple program to read and write to a file .. what a bummer.
So I am interested in expanding my horizons and learning
Thanks for this forum..

Many thanks for Code::Blocks, keep the good work up. I'm setting up Code::Blocks with the MinGW compiler on Windows 8.1 for my company, so far it works great. A little memory consuming on my old notebook with win XP and 2GB RAM, new on is a PC and works fine. Still have to make my own Makefile to instruct the debugger application VisionClick v7.0 and other software. But for now, I'm solving the errors and warnings of the new compiler, modern compiler == more strictly syntax :P

How to add other compiler in code::blocks, like Borland c++, visual c++ etc. would you like to help me? Thanks :D
Step 1. Read some of the CB FAQs http://wiki.codeblocks.org/index.php?title=FAQ (http://wiki.codeblocks.org/index.php?title=FAQ)
Step 2. At least read this this page in the Wiki http://wiki.codeblocks.org/index.php?title=Installing_a_supported_compiler (http://wiki.codeblocks.org/index.php?title=Installing_a_supported_compiler)
Step 3. Learn to post a new thread in the Forum asking your question.

This is me, and I am a human being. Now, I'm looking for a way to cross-compile a source code, written in C++, to run on Windows that will be able to connect to a MySQL on a Linux box. Again: C++ compiled to Linux ELF binary IS actually running on a Linux Box, do connect to the MySQL, brings me the results. Now I need this very same code, to become a Windows binary executable, to do the same: connect to a Linux Box that has a MySQL on it. I can not make it happen. I am using i586-mingw32msvc-g++ compiler.

Hi :)

I'm a Computer Science student (almost finished) from Podgorica, Montenegro.
Although that's not my field of study, I've devoted most of my free time in the last 3 years to embedded systems development, and I'm trying to make a hardware startup.
I also play guitar, compose and listen to all kinds of music.

Hello,
I am a post graduate student, working at embedded programming / Linux / ARM. I like programming, especially in C. I am also interested in making simple GUI applications with wxWidgets.
I think Code::Blocks is the most useful C/C++ IDE. It is convenient for me to compile a single source file without a project, to pause and display the duration at the end of a running program, to design GUI with wxSmith plug-in.
I made a donation of $ 10 recently to express my appreciation. Glad to meet you all.

Hello. I'm new to the forums, learning C++ with Code::Blocks. I have Code::Blocks on Windows, Kubuntu, and Raspbian and I struggle to get libraries working with each of them. Some of the Raspberry Pi version stuff is funny, like the option to start an Ogre project. 8)

I...am...here...I...am...new....!....
Actually, I've had a little experience with VS and C++. But after the "force all WinDevs onto Win 8" (a.k.a., Windows re-Vista-ed) and an unrelated(?) hardware crash, I am going Linux (Ubuntu 14.04) for a while.
Thanks for being. And thanks for having an "RTFM" easily available (and in HTML, at that!).

better late then never!
I know some C from college (2001-2002), and a bit of C++
I have my own Console program, temperature converter program which originally began as a class assignment in either CS 140 or CS185,
I can't recall if a temperature converter was the assignment and I merely choose the way to write it myself ( I use switches),
or i choose to do a temperature converter....
since then I have worked on a number of times, and as of December 2012 or so... I completed it
i.e. it converts Fahrenheit, Celsius, and Kelvin back and forth
cout << "Please select how You would like to convert.\n" /* Prompts user to make a selection */
<< "Enter the # 1, to convert Fahrenheit to Celsius.\n" /* Prompts user with an option. */
<< "Enter the # 2, to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit.\n" /* Prompts user with an option. */
<< "Enter the # 3, to convert Fahrenheit to Kelvin.\n" /* Prompts user with an option. */
<< "Enter the # 4, to convert Celsius to Kelvin.\n" /* Prompts user with an option. */
<< "Enter the # 5, to convert Kelvin to Fahrenheit.\n" /* Prompts user with an option. */
<< "Enter the # 6, to convert Kelvin to Celsius.\n" /* Prompts user with an option. */
<< "Enter the # 9, to end the program right now.\n" /* Prompts user with an option. */
<< endl; /* Prints new line, and clears cout buffer. */
after completing it I converted it to C++ which really wasn't that hard.. ^_^
and added validation checks to prevent crashing or INFINITE loops
do
{
cout << "Please enter your selection now." /* Prompts for the user's selection. */
<< endl; /* Prints new line, and clears cout buffer. */
cin.clear(); /* Clears input buffer, to avoid garbage. */
cin >> check; /* Gets user's input from the keyboard. */
cin.ignore(); /* Ignores return key stroke. */
cout << endl; /* Prints new line, and clears cout buffer. */
if(cin == NULL) /* Validation of Input buffer, IS NOT NULL. */
{
cout << "\nERROR:\n"
<< "DO NOT ENTER ANY THING OTHER THEN A NUMBER FROM 1 to 6 or 9,\n"
<< "OR THE PROGRAM COULD GO NUTZ...\n"
<< endl;
cin.clear(); /* Clears input buffer to avoid NULL loops. */
cin.ignore(); /* Ignores return key stroke. */
}
}while( (check<1) || (check>6) && !(check==9) ); /* Input selection Validation of check. */
if(check == 9) end(); /* If the User's input is 0, calls end function. */
I am here mainly to bug report when/if i run into anything...

Hi,
I am new, I am Here, I am a "REAL Person".
Would like to mention that you may want to update the "correct answer" for the registration question regarding the next year to be 2016, rather than 2015. Even though I am still writing 2014 :o
Thank you very much for Code::Blocks.

Hello
I am human though some may contest that claim.
Old timer here, who started hobby coding on 6502, 6809, 68000 and a bit of the Z80, many, many moons ago.
As I 'matured' (became bogged down with work and children) the time for hobbies diminished and keeping up with the latest tech became lost. Now with the children grown up I have more free time.
Now I need to learn a programming language for a 'new' longer term hobby project and C/C++ will be the core language (I think) so hopefully I can learn 'quickly'.
I know, I know optimism beyond reason but.......................
-
From one Human To another, I am Here and I hope to learn a lot. Hello to all.

I'm an active open source developer, and despite the many issues & problems I've had over the last few months, nor necessary the fault or failure of this software, have come to absolutely loves CB.
Just installed all the latest plugins for the 1st time, until now have not done that on my Debian 7 machine & been on Windows XP for 10+yrs, until last Sept, when I finally made the jump to linux. This whole project has become a big part of my daily life, tonight everything gets installed on my new developer machine running Debian 8 multi-arch.....
Great job from me, to everyone on on the team here! You have done so much over the last few months, I'm totally amazed and blessed to have found this project.
Thankyou,

Newcomer here - My default platform is Windows (8.1) and earlier - I'm more of a Unix sort of a guy - proprietary platforms is my specialty - MUMPS actually. Looking to learn to use some IDE stuff on Windows and Unix. I've used Eclipse in the past - but had some problems integrating the compiler - as I was running Suse Linux 10.1 under VMWare. Right now, its Win 8.1 running Code Blocks with a MinGW compiler. Hopefully, I'll be able to get that Hello World program going.
I do have a BS in Computer Science from 1987 - so yes - I am old school,

I don't see an Administrator section for this forum - so I will ask my question here. I'm a bit concerned with the message I receive regarding <accounts with zero posts and zero activity during the last month will be deleted periodically> I'm still searching / using and experimenting with Code :: Blocks - and I am quite sure I won't have any pertinent questions to ask in the next month or so. Deleting someone's account for zero posts and zero activity (what is this ? is a logon considered activity ?) Anyway, I just want to voice my concerns regarding that pop up message ,
H

I am new, I am here! :)
-
(what is this ? is a logon considered activity ?) Anyway, I just want to voice my concerns regarding that pop up message ,
Thank you for raising that concerns but I am afraid we won't change the policy and I'll tell you why:
Every week although we have quite string anti-spam checks roughly 15 spammers make it though the system and register with the forums. To remove those the method has proven to work extremely well.
Thats also why we have this "welcome" post section here: Remember: You only need to post a single message once (not per week/year...) just once per forum lifetime. That shouldn't be too hard. Anyway: As guest (i.e. not registered) you can read all important posts anyways. So we also assume that you register here because you have something to say/ask.
If you have better alternatives: Give us a hint!!! :D
Edit: BTW: In the year 2014 (only) we have killed 329339 spammers... just to give you a number how hard the fight is we do. ???
-
Thank you Sir - for your response and very informative explanation !
I hope, at some point I can become a contributor to this Code::Blocks forum - It's nice to have such a community and i am thankful for all the volunteers that keep this list operational.
I would have never imagined that's how many spammer folk you'd have on a typical forum , yikes.
Glad to be part of the community,
H

"I am new, I am here", said the sentient spam-bot

Hello all! Spambot "Betsemes" here. I'm new to spamming... errr, programming. You may email me at betsemes at SpamBotHeaven dot com.
Baaad joke :-) Seriously now. I graduated some 25 years ago with a bachelor degree in mathematics and computer science. I never found a job as a programmer, maybe I didn't look hard enough. I'm now relearning what I used to know, learning C++, and planning to build my own commercial projects.
I'm currently using Notepad++ as text editor, MinGW, and WxWidgets for GUI programming. I'm getting tired of how hard is to write a single program without the debugging tools that Code::Blocks users take for granted. So I'm considering downloading and installing it. The problem is my hard drive is almost full, I love Notepad++ as a text editor (I use it for almost everything), and I'm very reticent to bring yet another program to my already crowded hard drive. However, I'm seriously considering it; my registering here is proof of it, I think.
Well, administrators, I hope you'd forgive the little innocent joke of mine ;D.
EDIT: I'm downloading it as I write this update. The tutorial on wxSmith convinced me on that. I don't know anything that would pave the way towards building my planned project faster than this plugin. I'll be playing with it during the next days.

Newcomer to the Board / Wiki but not to Code::Blocks. I've been using it for a few years with good results.
Recently trying to use it for more embedded (rather than desktop) things, especially MSP430.
Will post some issues I have with the MSP430 implementation later...
Thanks for all your hard work!

I am new, I am here...
I have been writing software for many years... from school projects recorded on punched paper tape, in many languages from traditional BASIC to assembly language and C on embedded processors for professional applications, C++ on MSVC, and Javascript, have a published Firefox extension...
For a project started in November 2014 currently up to 35k lines of source code, I looked to see what decent IDEs were available that were independent of MSFT and found QT and Code::Blocks... preferring Code::Blocks for its independence from commercial interests. Started using CB-13.12 with TDM-GCC-32 and wxWidgets but considering the relatively great age of the 13.12 official release moved on to nightly 10035, then 100136 in March.
Code::Blocks does a great job but it would be really great if it could be used "officially" with wxWidgets 3.

Who knows why when I open Code::Blocks it show me in the right corner (down): "Can;t find compiler executable in your configured search path's for Copy of GNU GCC Compiler" or after I press "Build and Run" doesn't happen nothing, and when I press Run it tell me that the program is not built and it ask me if I want to build it now ? For one month I am trying to figure ut what is the problem but I didn't know :( I tried to reinstal it for hundred times but it is the same...If you can help I will be glad.

Wow. Finally.
It's a week I'm trying to register here.
It worked only after I changed my email from hotmail.com to another domain.
No, the activation email was not in the spam folder.
So... no idea. Hope you didn't just ban hotmail.com altogether, I didn't find any mention of that.
Anyway, CodeBlocks seems very nice, just started using it.
Thanks.

I am new and I am here....in Fishers, IN, USA. And I am not a Spambot.
I'm sorting through the licensing, still a bit befuddled but I've been away for some time (car accident, not prison).
I'm not being greedy, just pragmatic -- I have some serious bills to pay.
I desire to create a plug-in for a new language but don't wish to make it free, but commercial; specifically: no required sharing of source.
I don't know what other languages people are dealing WRT C::B. I'm not looking at it for the standard C, C++, or Fortran.

I'm new to the community (C/C++ and code::blocks) I will step on more than a few tows here and there and I will ask stupid questions almost exclusively. Fill free to ban me if I become too much to handle. As a start any one knows a good forum for C/C++ coding in general? I'm looking for something liberal where I can ask question of the type "which is the best C/C++ IDE" and have a flame war unfold (or not) with out people getting banned or threads deleted (locking them is acceptable). AS you might guessed stackoverflow is good example of what I'm not looking for, too restrictive for my taste.

The Code::Blocks team.
me is human. mostly.
not sure what "valuable members" consist of. one does what one can.
some may know me from other forums or nntp nosegropes like comp.os.linux or whatever it's called, lately entirely overwhelmed by trolls.
me not troll. me write code. me wrote 3 debuggers and helped with fourth one. step through interrupts in mainframe os, no debug builds just release build. windows added later. me keeps real name unknown to protect the coder's head, keep attached to body when headhunters prowl; ugh, retired as of 2000.
"crankypuss" is lie to fend off jerks. btw, what is language policy here?
currently working on new architecture, totally portable, see here if interested: http://totally-portable-software.blogspot.com/
have always sucked at installing anything not homemade, go figure. already have stupid questions. maybe stupid answers too.
btw, last time i wrote anything besides PHP was just before i retired in 2000, using MSFT's Visual C++ some old version like 1.5 or something, codeblocks is first decent IDE found by me since abandoning Windows for linux a few years ago. nice job, guys.

Hi there! I am here.

Still relevant?
Here I am :)

Hope this works. I'm a real person. I'm interested in microcontrollers, including Arduino of course, but others too. I've been using the Arduino IDE, but I'm looking for something a bit friendlier. I like PlatformIO, it works really well and integrates with CB well with a couple of minor niggles. It also works well with Atom and VScode, but I think CB is friendlier and easier to use than either of those. BTW I'm a Linux fan, I use Mint 18.1 (Cinnamon desktop) 90% of the time, but occasionally Ubuntu, PCLinuxOS (KDE desktop), and LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition) just for fun, or for experimenting with new software. I have Win7 and Win10 setup in virtual machines under Mint but I only use them if there is absolutely no other way. Unfortunately there is one program I need for which there is no Linux equivalent, and probably never will be. It's the Nextion Editor, a nifty little editor for programming the Nextion smart LCD screens. It's a serious POC but I can't avoid using it. Grrr.

how to install and use them?

I tried to install plugins by plugins/manage plugins since ther are no build-ins I I then googled and i saw codeblocks/plugins page but its only WIKI page there is no download option.

Hello to all,
I'm quite new in c++ and would like to learn gui tools on raspberry pi.
I assume c::b could be a very good solution to work on this idea.
Unfortunately I do not find a repositoroy for c::b 17.12 which work on rpi.
Therefore I will find a solution (better some support) in this forum. We will see
what happens
Good luck to all and congratulations to our great work on c::b

Hi, I'm using codeblocks to learn c++. Before I retired I was a hardware tech in a manufacturing plant, and I want to learn c++ for robotics and home projects

So Hi all. Previous programming experience was Ceibo IDE for 8031 core micro's. I have been waffling about learning C++ for a number of years because I have not been able to make the connection between object oriented programming and controlling the machine directly. I got my fresh new copy of C++ for dummies and hope to change all that. I look forward to participating in the forum and if I manage to figure something out I am happy to share what I have learned with anyone who would like the help. Thanks for Code::Blocks, I hope it is as rewarding an experience as I can imagine... :) Oh, I am a human becoming, I hope that qualifies..

I think that there is no connection to find.

Hello, I am here too.
Not new to programming. doing some stuff on both Windows 10 and Linux (got both running in my office).
Impressed with easy setup of the IDE. Got both the GCC and the DMD compiler and even the Borland BCC 5.5 compiler to work with.
Both GCC and DMD on both the windows and linux. Nice stuff to play with.

Hi, I'm Mick
I have just installed code blocks and have a couple of questions.
I will endeavour my best to search for the relevant answer before posting.
I promise, i will do my best to put the question in the right topic, with enough context.
If I fail at either of the above, please find me some forgiveness, and remember what it was like for yourself when you started (or restarted) programming.
Thanks in advance, Mick :)

Hello, I am new here and use C::B to try C++
-
I am new, I am here.
As a student of the metaphysical, this makes for a pretty good mantra-esque type of saying!
I've looked in this forum plenty of times before. I coulda swore I already made an account, but I suppose this is the first!
I pay the price for choosing Code::Blocks over Visual Studio - I've had to "learn extra" to bypass certain scenarios where a library was made working perfectly for Visual Studio yet did not work with Code::Blocks. Er, perhaps I mean to say GCC, or any of the other tools, but still it blows my mind that Visual Studio tends to have this special treatment of a sort.
I am strangely bound to Code::Blocks, and I cannot bring myself to really use others. It was one of my first Open Source discoveries, and the idea of using it captivated my imagination:
In an apocalypse, open source must be nearly the only way. We can master C++, but what of our development environment? Code::Blocks seems the obvious choice, as your programming mastery could directly be applied to the IDE itself. It is but one more piece of freedom in the ability to add or improve any open tools, as you could go deeper in terms of what you can modify/create: The compiler and linker, the operating system, a programming language, the many drivers, and the hardware itself.
We could rebuild society from ruins, and even make the process of obtaining a computer to be so extremely independent and self-sufficient. Electricity, hardware, and software can allow us to bypass the old ways of mining, refining, of building the microchips and components, and to automate the whole process so that an individual may never need to rely on a corporation again. It is the software's openness that makes this clear, and the hardware must come next. To have a powerful IDE alongside a powerful language allows us to grow past what simply cannot be done in a proprietary environment which literally would fail or malfunction in times of need. Though it is the language that provides so much, the environment being so extensible is a powerful amplifier as it may be the window into which all other projects - compilers, drivers, languages, operating systems, etc - reside within view.
Just as the electricity, hardware, firmware, and OS provide a window from bottom-up, the IDE allows us to more easily dig back down and reconfigure the old and the obsolete. No matter how sophisticated a proprietary IDE might be, if it is not open source then it cannot achieve things the same way. We cannot look inside a proprietary IDE in order to learn from how it works, make our own, or improve it - it simply does not allow it to happen on purpose. A shallow, obsolete purpose.
In the apocalypse it is the open which will remove so much guesswork from the rebuilding process: bypassing the obsolete, wasteful monetary reasoning behind making something closed in the first place. It is truly an amplifier to humankind's survival that there is an open source alternative to any and all software and hardware. The closed will simply make us reliant on a breakable, unfix-able realm where exact computer models and OS choices would be disturbingly needed to ensure the proprietary solutions keep functioning. No one could easily be motivated to develop new hardware knowing that they cannot look inside these closed tools in order to make them work for the next iteration of computers. Too much would have to be built from the ground up without being able to learn from the mistakes of the past. It would instill the mindset of closed-source going forward, causing the rebuilt world to potentially suffer the same fate yet again.
Yes, I imagine using Code::Blocks in an apocalypse. xD
