Title: OK GUYS, TIME TO ADVERTISE!
Post by: rickg22 on July 26, 2005, 09:22:40 pm
I see there are many c++ forums out there where dev-c++ is mentioned. (Usually the posts referring to it are about a year old). But now that Codeblocks has reached Release Candidate 1, I say it's time to recruit and start promoting!

Who's with me?

(cue crickets chirping :P )

Anyway, seriously, we need some people who start spreading the word about Codeblocks, in other programming forums. We (the developers) don't have time for it, so maybe you guys can.

I thank you in advance!

Ive done it already but not as much as I should. However, why dont we post links to c++ forums, and maybe people interesting in this shameless  :D advertising (Im in :P) can reply to this thread saying "Forum X - Done". Just an idea

In comp.soft-sys.wxwindows, this month *two* threads was started by people asking for an IDE!
I was itching to give those people a pointer over here, but held back. Now is the time then? Who's gonna do it? I'll do it gladly, provide them with a pointer to here. If some words should go along with the pointer in the posts, then I'll leave it to somebody else, somebody native-english-speaking.
Perhaps Rick will do a "ANN: Code::Blocks IDE" posting?

Names of mentioned comp.soft-sys.wxwindows threads:
"Linux IDE"
"Which IDE for wxWidgets?"

Regards,
Troels

I think we shouldn't do that. They'll eventually talk about it when codeblocks' popularity surpasses dev's.

I posted news at Game Design PL (http://warsztat.mmogspot.pl), biggest (I suppose) Polish community portal for game programmers. 8)
Some persons immediately pointed some bugs which I'll report tomorrow (too tired now to describe it), but overall reaction seems to be nice, or even very nice. :)

Btw. please note that many forums/sites usually have threads/sections that contains links to useful resources, often including 'free C/C++ compilers/IDEs' section. It seems to be a good idea to post new useful link in such places (and it is not a spam then :P).

You're polish!?!?

Dude! I've been searching for polish testers, there's some weird characters bug submitted by aarti_pl on sourceforge.

Vampyre Dark: Mind submitting the news to gamedev? :D

Smile! You're in august issue of Software Developer's Journal (http://www.software20.org/en/index.php?page=index)! :D

You can find a really tiny issue preview here (http://www.software20.org/pl/index.php) (in Polish) with C::B mentioned, they also have French (here (http://www.shop.software.com.pl/fr/index.php?p=2&kat=6)) & English (not available yet) version, but they contain no preview.

Their site says the article covers basic introduction to IDE - like how to set it up with different compilers or guide through various functionality of C::B (presumably finalbeta 1). It also covers "something" that I cannot understand at all (paragraph on the site was written by horrible translator who surely has no idea of IT at all...), but it's either about writing simple plugin or generally about writing IDEs (as a wrappers for compilers functionality) with a C::B as an example.

EDIT: of course C::B was included on their Cover CD.

I did a minor advertising in an exposition about BSD last thursday for my OS2 class, showing the FreeBSD screenshot in this site and, at the end, there was a few questions we made, one of those which C++ editor was shown in one of the slides so they'd have it in mind, and was good to see some ppl knew about :)

Hello,

I have also done and I still do some C::B promotion, especially to users that would like to use a well done IDE for programming in C++. Until now those users belong to Qt forum and wxWidgets (but I am not sure about this one :?). I have also introduced C::B to some of my colleagues at the university who work with C++ under both Linux and Windows. The reactions were of course positive  :).

Best wishes,
Michael
