A bit of topic, I was just taking a look at the wiki and came across the roadmap and I 'm curious. Why is RC3 called Ephialtes? (It 's pretty clear why final RC is called Athenades though ;))
Must I say that I reeeeally like them?
*Ephialtes is the most famous traitor in Greek history. From his name comes the modern Greek word for "nightmare". Athenades was the one that eventually killed him.

They were going to use LONGHORN, but it was taken.

Several people accused us of treason because we kept adding features after releasing RC2, which seems to be a capital crime in their eyes. Even more so as in addition to changing the SDK and several major components, we did not take the time to write a roadmap, as they would expect from any decent project.
Therefore, the name for RC3 necessarily had to be a traitor's name. Yes, I'm a cynic, I know :)
Anyway, since we now had one Greek traitor and another Greek project leader, the other names had to be Greeks, too. As the different releases are related to each other, their respective names are, too.
The choice of Pheidippides probably needs no further explanation. The release dates were chosen to lie on weekends, so we have time for the releases.
Pheidippides is planned for centenary of the battle of Marathon (in the Spartan calendar).

Hello,
By the way, will the RC3, run under Win98 ? ( ANSI version?)
Thanks.

only if we create a special ansi build for it, I think we will ;-)

We have a roadmap?
Hmmm I think we should add that link from the main page.

the ansi-build is the least problem, the crashes are problemtically ...

Speaking of names, the wx people appears to be slightly unhappy with the name CodeBlocks:
CodeBlocks is in no way related to Julian Smart or Anthemion Software's DialogBlocks
http://www.wxwidgets.org/apps2.htm
Please don't tear my head off when I say this, but IMHO the name is about the only thing not amazing about this project, an ok but not fantastic name. Also, with the colon-colon in it becomes clunky. I've been thinking of names to suggest, that's no bloody easy. I can see CodeBlocks as a variation on CodeWarrior (nice name), perhaps continue down this path looking for an even better variation? I'm living in the land of Lego, still I find the word "Blocks" weird, in this context (in DialogBlocks as well).
Anyhow, when CB 1.0 takes over the world which I sincerely think it will, from then on yours truly and everybody else will have Blocks in/on their minds!
Regards
Troels

What? I don't think this means the wx "people" are upset at all.... Code::Blocks is a good name, which shouldn't be changed. I think it is the best IDE name that anyone has come up with so far.

Hello,
I am also quite happy with the name CodeBlocks. I find it good and suitable :). CodeWarrior is may be nice, but why warrior? I do not want to fight with my code :).
After your link, I have also found this new IDE, i.e., wxCpp (http://wxforum.shadonet.com/viewtopic.php?t=7025&sid=617dc4f071c12d1dca4015027c66d1b5). It seems quite interesting, but lesser than C::B anyway :D.
Best wishes,
Michael

I would not take that comment to serious. It does not necessarily mean anything. And if... so what :)
If someone doesn't like the name, he isn't forced to use it :)
-
Let's call it
Code::Toad
and be done with it :D :D

Its author is from Greece, too.
Must be popular hobby in Greece, I mean writing IDEs. :)
Let's call it
Code::Toad
Or adopt Ubuntu naming scheme. 8)
(Farty Flounder ?!? )

Should I also start writing one?

Actually, that disclaimer was added by me after Julian complained to me about the name. He said that it was "unfortunate" that the name was similar to his products. But we shouldn't give it too much importance, k?
