Title: [DOWNLOAD] Packages of Code::Blocks in your linux distro
Post by: takeshimiya on October 27, 2005, 12:59:45 am
Hi! Now that RC2 is out and working on linux with the new build system, it would be great if the most used distros (at least) haves a C::B package in their official repositories, using wxGTK from each respective repository.

Packages of precompiled binaries:

The list of packages has been moved to the Wiki:
http://wiki.codeblocks.org/index.php?title=Compiled_packages_of_Code::Blocks

Anyone starting working in one of these distros please post here and in the Wiki, so there isn't duplicated effort.

Daniel has sent me a source RPM and specfile for SuSE.
Also, a gentoo ebuild is lurking somewhere around here...

The source RPM and the Spec file can be used for every distribution !!!
It is a very minimal Spec. No wxGTK requires are mentioned because of to different namings ( wxGTK and wxGTK2 ). To get the requires the rpm auto find script is automatically used. The requires will be the libraries C::B is linked to.

I will also provide Suse specific RPM's the next time. Perhaps I'll send my packages to packman or I'll get my own apt repository on ftp.gwdg.de (what's not such a good idea because there are too much repos yet)

=>  Me = SuSE  :D

@takeshimiya: Thanks for this very good link list !!!

Hey there, thanks for this really great IDE!  :D

Since i have not enough time atm to start hacking on Code::Blocks i thought about how i could support it...

Well, here is the, at least as far as i know  8), first Code::Blocks-Package for Ubuntu Breezy Badger :
http://www.char0n.de/stuff/codeblocks-1.0rc2.deb

DISCLAIMER :
This is the first package i ever built, but since it doesn't do anything fancy (just copying all files to their appropriate places) it shouldn't do any harm to your PC.
The Code::Blocks-Sourcecode wasn't changed by me, its just the one you can get in the download-section.
Although it uses the same mechanism (*.deb), its unlikely that this package will work in either Debian Woody/Sarge/Sid or Ubuntu Hoary/Warty, better don't even try!

I hope this package will help a few people to get Code::Blocks working on their system.

Here is my first ebuild *g*

http://www.students.uni-mainz.de/pwuertz/it/gentoo/codeblocks-1.0_rc2.ebuild

Its working but I dont think its very good. I dont know how to check if wxGTK has been compiled with "gtk2".

You might also have a look at the keywords, I set "~x86" and "~amd64" so far.

Ah, and could someone please take a look at this *g*

Thank you very much

Here are the links to Suse 10 RPMs:
i686:http://linux01.gwdg.de/~pbleser/rpm-navigation.php?cat=/Editors/codeblocks
x86_64/AMD64:http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/suser-drcux/100/x86_64/
They are build by real professionals (not by me :D ).

These packages are also available with apt4rpm (available on the original Suse 10 medias):

Server: ftp://ftp4.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/ or ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/
distribution: SuSE/10.0-i386 or SuSE/10.0-x86_64
components (i686): suser-guru
components (x86_64/AMD64): suser-drcux

RPMs for other Suse versions couldn't be build at the moment because of build errors, but they will follow. They will be listed at the same link.

I'll keep updating the distribution independent source RPM and specfile.

Somebody have been compiled CB for slax/slackware? with kernel 2.6.12 or higher?

I'd compiled too many times with different options unicode/wxWidgets 2.4, 2.6, etc but
allways crash when runs for first time.

There are some tgz or .mo file compiled and ready?

Thanks in advance:

No one has tried I think. Lack of Slackware installed :P

BTW did you tried to compile wxWidgets from source, or you used the packages?
Your wxWidgets intallations are working ok? ie. tried to compile the wx examples?

checkinstall, what a great tool

polygon7: the package you made is i686 or Athlon XP? Because optimized for Athlon XP is not the same as i686 (Athlon XP haves 3D Now! and SSE)

BTW, a 1.0 RC2 package of C::B would be better than CVS (CVS binaries scares some people)

It is for Athlon XP (with 3D Now! and SSE). I put the "i686" tag into package because i don't know what is correct - "i686" or "athlon-xp". I will try to make RC2 package soon.

athlon-xp would be more correct, but I'd suggest you to make an i686 package rather than a more cpu (athlon-xp) specific, so you could upload to linuxpackages.net

Ok, i've made new i686 and Athlon XP packages for Slackware ( http://www.icpnet.pl/~groman/cb-slack/ ). 8)

Edit: Packages are not available for a while. I must fix some small bugs in description file.

Edit2: Ok, descriptions are fixed. If somebody have problems with this packages then send me message, and i will try to fix them as soon as posible.

Thanks to all of you for creating packages!

If you can, contact official package mantainers of your distro so they can put it in the official repository (and please post here when done).

Now, of the big distros we are missing Debian and Mandriva packages.

the offered i686 package for slackware did not work for me... it was peristently missing some libwx library even tho i had built and installed wx 2.6.2a ... so i went into sources and compiled current CVS.

I have a slackware 10.1 system partialy upgraded to 10.2 with 2.6.13 kernel. i made a chekinstall pakage of my currently working instalation, and I can share it if you want but i take no respnsibillity for what it does to your system. I can only say it works for me.

Would be perfect, do you know slax? I ask you this becasuse there are some kinds of "modules" (tgz slackware packages converted to '.mo' files) and the lastest weeks I was trying to make one stable "module" of Code::Blocks (only self-installable C::B file, awesome!!!)

So, if you have got the wxWidgets compiled for slackware and the compiled version of Code::Blocks that uses this libraries I will appreciate your help.

Can you share with us? pleaaaaase? :)

Thanks.

Hi Markus,

I have installed it on Ubuntu Breezy Badger, but it does not install properly on the directories. It seems it has / as the root folder for installation rather than /usr. I do not know how to build a .deb from a .tgz. Am I doing something wrong or the .deb is not correct? I just use dpkg -i

Pascual.

yep. right. you can start codeblocks using the command "codeblocks --prefix=/" . This should be fixed in the package however. So please change it to be installed to /opt (as codeblocks expects it to be there). although i'd personally prefer it to be in /usr/share, but then you have to change the default directory in the source code (or install a startscript) - but i'm also not an ubuntu package specialist, so i don't know what is the right way.

"Cannot find /opt/codeblocks/share/codeblocks/resources.zip...
Code::Blocks was configured to be installed in '/opt/codeblocks/share/codeblocks'.
Please use the command-line switch '--prefix' or set the CODEBLOCKS_DATA_DIR environment variable to point where Code::Blocks is installed,
or try re-installing the application..."

but C::B still doesn't seem to work properly, i get the following messages
(codeblocks:11440): GnomePrintCupsPlugin-WARNING **: iconv does not support ppd character encoding: ISOLatin1, trying CSISOLatin1
addr2line: 'codeblocks': No such file
addr2line: 'codeblocks': No such file
(and about 20 more of the "no such file")

It crashes on closing, but i haven't tried out a lot yet.

We provide no linux packages. Search who made it and maybe he can help you. He probably didn't use the default installation directory.
Sorry...

It's easy to build C::B though. Maybe you should try it.

actually i think i now where this problem is comming from :-(

if configured C::B with the option "--prefix=/opt/codeblocks".
well, i then built the *.deb, installed it and thought "woohoo, it works!".
mh, i just didn't think about the fact that i had still the whole C::B-directory in /opt...
so no wonder it isn't complaining on my notebook :-(

i am really ashamed about my stupid mistake. will have a look at this on the weekend.

Markus,

Thanks for doing all the work of making the Ubuntu Breezy .deb, I was having trouble getting Code::Blocks to compile (well, ./configure was being stupid and I couldn't fix it)

I have fixed the problem with the Ubuntu Breezy .deb
I do not, however, have any webspace on which to put the deb, so here are instructions on how I fixed it:

The '$' denotes astandard user's console.

Code
$ dpkg -x codeblocks-1.0rc2.deb codeblocks-1.0rc2
$ mkdir codeblocks-1.0rc2/DEBIAN
$ dpkg -e codeblocks-1.0rc2.deb codeblocks-1.0rc2/DEBIAN
$ cd codeblocks-1.0rc2
$ mkdir opt
$ mkdir opt/codeblocks
$ mv share opt/codeblocks
$ cd ..
$ mv codeblocks-1.0rc2.deb codeblocks-1.0rc2-orig.deb
$ dpkg --build codeblocks-1.0rc2

Hello all,

I hereby announce the avalability of Code::Blocks 1.0rc2 deb for Debian Sid and Ubuntu Breezy.  They are not, by Debian standard, perfect packages, but they build and install fine on my box.  I expect that the Debian package will also install fine on an Etch-based system, and, to a lesser, I think the package for Ubuntu should also work on an Ubuntu Dapper based system.  The Debian package will *not* work on a Sarge based box due to the unavalability of wxWidget 2.6 in the main archive.

Frederico Mameri has stood volunteer to update the package in the future.  I've assured him of my collaboration if required.  That means all feature request (for the package, not in CB itself) will be redirected to him.  He seems motivated and competent.  I've got some other packages and projects to handle so I think it's better for CB if somebody like him take over.

But, AFAIK, I can still provide distro-specific package for Etch, Dapper and Sarge since they all share the same sources and building is easy.  I'll monitor the forum for a few days for any requests of that kind.

The Debian packages are available at:

http://neutronic.mine.nu/unstable

(this is an apt repository if anyone cares: deb http://neutronic.mine.nu/unstable ./)

The Ubuntu packages are available at:

http://neutronic.mine.nu/ubuntu-breezy

(this is *not* and apt repository so take the .deb directly)

Title: Re: [DOWNLOAD] Packages of Code::Blocks in your linux distro
Post by: Neumann on December 12, 2005, 06:32:57 pm
Right now? yes, probably.

I'm not an official Debian Developer so I cannot upload the package right away in the repository.  I would need a sponsor, a Debian Developer willing to check and upload my packages for me.

That's a semi-easy task to find a sponsor, but once you find one, he is more or less the boss of you.  He willl request to fix the errors and warnings and might request a reorganization of the package if he judges it necessary since he is the one that got the upload power.  I've got not time and little intereste to go throught that.  Frederico (or somebody else), might want to do that in the near future but that will probably take a while.

In Ubuntu case: I think the Debian unstable repository is periodically synched with the Dapper universe repository.  That means once the package entered Debian, you get Ubuntu for free.  I don't know how to get a package to enter the official, non-universe, Ubuntu repository.

Ok, lot's of struggle for making available in the debian repository.

So, there is any possibility to find an official debian developer willing to be the mantainer of the package?

I have the same question for other distros, as I think it would be more easy to find an official mantainer starts to deliver the package, rather than having an unofficial mantainer having approved the package.

Ok, lot's of struggle for making available in the debian repository.

I might have made it sound worse than it is :D  It's not that bad for somebody who is motivated, but, like I said, I've got little time for that.

Quote
So, there is any possibility to find an official debian developer willing to be the mantainer of the package?

I think in most case, you'll get the same "no time" answer for most developers.  I think the best, most reliable way to proceed is to first get a sponsor to verify and upload the package, and only then post a Request for Adoption.  I think DDs are much more enclined to adopt a package that has already been checked a proven worthy of being uploaded.  Caring for the package still takes time, but I think a Code::Blocks package will be low-maintenance for a while, maybe until it gets more plugins and documentation and such...

on another note :
thanks Neumann! :D

will give this package a try this evening.

if i understand it right the multiverse-repository is managed by the community, so chances seem not too bad to get codeblocks into an official reporitory for Ubuntu...

   Hi,

   I was able to build an RPM for Mandriva 2006 just correcting the wxSleep stuff. Unfortunatelly I don't have place to store it but I can send to anyone who ask for.

Hi,

I am interested by your package, could you send it to me at richom.v@free.fr.
By the way I don't understand why it's so difficult to compile/find CodeBlocks on Linux/Unix.

Does somebody use the Debian Sid package on Debian Etch ?

If there's someone please write here whether it works. Because Etch and Sid use the same packages required by codeblocks, it should work!

thanks

Daniel

Hi - could you please send me that RPM at toddhd@gmail.com? I have a website and would be able to host the file for future use if neccessary.

I've updated the specfile in the wiki (Compiling Code::Blocks in RPM based distributions (http://wiki.codeblocks.org/index.php?title=Compiling_Code::Blocks_in_RPM_based_distributions))

Everyone who wants to build an rpm can take a look at the wiki page.

Hi, I've tried to install codeblocks on Debian (sarge with packages from newer releases, but this should not be the point). After adding

deb http://neutronic.mine.nu/unstable ./

to sources.list, "apt-get update" works, and "apt-get install codeblocks" seems to work:

The following extra packages will be installed:
  libwxgtk2.6-0
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  codeblocks libwxgtk2.6-0

but after confirming:

Do you want to continue? [Y/n] y
Err http://neutronic.mine.nu ./ codeblocks 1.0rc2-1
  404 Not Found
Failed to fetch http://neutronic.mine.nu/unstable/unstable/codeblocks_1.0rc2-1_i386.deb  404 Not Found
E: Unable to fetch some archives, maybe run apt-get update or try with --fix-missing?

Maybe the directory structure is not as expected (the double "unstable/unstable" directory...)?
(I hope my question is not too silly, I'm a debian and linux beginner).

Thanks in advance

I think I remember this behavior has being Sarge specific.  My repository might be misconfigured.  Just download and install the .deb straight from the repository.

If wxgtk2.6 is available (it's a backport I guess), will likely install & work.

Ok, after installing libwxgtk, I successfully installed your package with dpkg.
At startup, I get this error:

codeblocks: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libgnomeprint/2.10.3/modules/libgnomeprintcups.so: undefined symbol: gnome_cups_printer_get_ppd_async

I guess this is related to my "old" (2.10) gnome version.
I'll try to upgrade, thank you.

Hi,

I've built C::B 1.0rc2 under Fedora Core 3.
It can be downloaded from:
http://timeoff.wsisiz.edu.pl/zrzut/codeblocks-1.0-0.2.rc2.fc3.i386.rpm (http://timeoff.wsisiz.edu.pl/zrzut/codeblocks-1.0-0.2.rc2.fc3.i386.rpm)

I modified Daniel Orb's SPEC file a little, to apply patch fixing wxUsleep() misspell (needed to
compile with wxWidgets 2.4), changed package version/revision for easier upgrade and added cleaning of a build directory.

New (more universal) SRPM can be downloaded from:
http://timeoff.wsisiz.edu.pl/zrzut/codeblocks-1.0-0.2.rc2.src.rpm (http://timeoff.wsisiz.edu.pl/zrzut/codeblocks-1.0-0.2.rc2.src.rpm)

I've already built (compiled ok) in Ubuntu 64 5.10 (which is the same as Kubuntu), but C::B is almost unusable there (yet).
See here (http://forums.codeblocks.org/index.php?topic=2096.0).

I've got three questions regarding Code::Blocks RC2.

1) Do I just have to install the rpm mentioned here and Codeblocks will be ready?

2) daniel2000 wrote that the RPM for Suse 9.3 can be found under http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/suser-drcux/93/rpm/ (http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/suser-drcux/93/rpm/). But there is no file called "codeblocks". Can you tell me another location to download a RC2 package for Suse 9.3?

3) Why is there no Makefile.unix in the RC2 source code archive? I'd compile it myself if I had a makefile.

Hello,

IMHO you should compile C::B from SVN sources, instead of using RC2. Have a look at here (http://wiki.codeblocks.org/index.php?title=Compiling_Code::Blocks_in_Linux_%28applies_to_all_distros%29) on how to do. In case of problems a fast search in the forum is usually helpful :).

Yes, only the i686 version of the Suse 9.3 package is available here (http://linux01.gwdg.de/~pbleser/rpm-navigation.php?cat=/Editors/codeblocks). But it's very outdated (that's the reason the other packager removed it from his repository).

Hello everybody,
I've just built my first .deb package using the current (20/02/2006) SVN HEAD.
Since it's my first build the package may be lacking something I did not notice, but I installed it on my system and it seems to work.
I'm using Ubuntu/Kubuntu 5.10 (Breezy Badger) with the latest updates I could find.

The package is available  for download at the following address:

http://carapax.wiener.crema.unimi.it/users/max/codeblocks_200206ubuntu_i386.deb

Hope it serves you well

Max

[EDIT]

I noticed a problem while running the IDE: the buttons that should be colored reflecting the chosen color for something (like background) are always grey. Please let me know if this is a known bug.

I'm just compiling the newest SVN revision under Fedora Core 4. If there aren't too much errors, I'll upload the RPM package to a free download space (could be little slow). It should be available in the two hours.

Thanks for the compliments, I'll try to do a build each week.
I mostly followed the instructions you can find by googling for "how to build deb package", but I can summarize the process in:

* Name the directory containing the sources following the Debian naming scheme.
* Run dh_make (with the proper options) within such dir.
* Modify / Delete the files contained in the ./debian directory that is generated by dh_make. Beware that programs that do not use autoconf/automake need a special attention.
* Run debuild in the source directory. The package is generated in the upper level directory respect to the source.

Pretty simple, altough I wish I coluld master the debianization better.

I'm trying to compile it, but I have to recompile the wxGTK package too. So it takes a bit longer, because this causes other problems (can't fit build dependencies, though having activated even development repo's :? ).

I hope it will be ready this evening, at least the wxGTK package, codeblocks should follow tomorrow (if it works :lol: )

Shall I also build a codeblocks RC2 package ? The one I try to build now is one out of the svn sources.

I think we could try that svn sources, and if it's too bugy we try the RC2 later.

Sorry Rondy, it took very long. I had few problems to build the package (misconfigurations and few little errors)

Here is the revision 2134 package: http://www.savefile.com/projects.php?pid=369858 (http://www.savefile.com/projects.php?pid=369858) (in some time also available on berlios: Code::Blocks IDE - Files (http://developer.berlios.de/project/showfiles.php?group_id=5358)
It's linked against the original fedora packages: http://ftp.freshrpms.net/pub/freshrpms/ayo/fedora/linux/4/i386/RPMS.freshrpms/ (http://ftp.freshrpms.net/pub/freshrpms/ayo/fedora/linux/4/i386/RPMS.freshrpms/) (to run codeblocks you need at least wxGTK-2.6.2-0.2.2.fc4.i386.rpm)

Package linked against the suse/mandriva compatible package (can be found here (http://forums.codeblocks.org/index.php?topic=2479.0)) will follow. (don't know when)

Great! It works quite well, better than whatever i installed previously.

Though there is little problem, when i choose editor --> settings, it hangs up (i.e. process is "sleeping")...
It happens only with editor settings, haven't had it hanging up other way.
I'm going to compile it muself, maybe, if i will have time. Tho i'll probably first compile and install wxwidgets 2.6.3 for fixes...

Yes, but the FC4 packages are linked against wxGTK 2.6.2 packages of freshrpms (http://ftp.freshrpms.net/pub/freshrpms/ayo/fedora/linux/4/i386/freshrpms/RPMS), so it should work. I tested it with the wxGTK package of FC5, but without any other FC5 update, and it worked. Only other packages could make problems (glibc or gtk2).

Sorry for the a bit off-topic post, but for those who cannot make their Linux build, e.g., Mandriva2006 available online, they could use a free File Hosting as savefile (http://www.savefile.com/). It works well :), despite the advs :(.

I use CentOS which is the same as Fedora and RHEL. However each version of each release is different.
For example my CentOS 4.3 uses:

Try it like I wrote in the wiki: Compiling Code::Blocks in RPM based distributions (http://wiki.codeblocks.org/index.php?title=Compiling_Code::Blocks_in_RPM_based_distributions). ;)

EDIT: @DJMaze: Does codeblocks run, if you install it without checking dependencies (rpm -Uvh --nodeps CB_20060414_rev2352_fc4.rpm)? If yes, I could remove these dependencies and you could install the nightlies.

Packages of precompiled binaries:

The list of packages has been moved to the Wiki:

Hello,

I think that we should update the link for the pre-compiled Ubuntu development releases (SVN, x86). The link should point to the Nightly builds sub-forum or to BerliOS.

Best wishes,
Michael

Hi, could anyone put this into the wiki page?

It is an overlay for the gentoo-linux build script for code::blocks,
i made it because i use code::blocks everyday and the rc2 version is lightyears behind the current svn :)

It checks out the source from svn, applies some community patches (from the topic on this forums),
fixes a gentoo-specific problem with auto_revision script and finally installs the good thing.

I've built C::B 1.0rc2 under Slackware 10.1 with wxWidgets-2.6.3.
I've created the packages too.
Codeblocks works fine and amazingly built my test application with wxWidgets.

anyone interested please email me at  jefrisibarani@gmail.com, because i have no webspace to put the tgz package yet.

Anyway, RC2 is old now. Much better to build packages from the SVN sources.

Ok, I use Debian etch on AMD64 platform. And so I cannot install any of the packages that I have found on the wiki, at least that I know of. Anyway I built latest version from source instead and it worked fine. Also I have made my first package for Debian AMD64. So, are there anyone who do this already, or should I make my package available? Mandrav, I see you are registered as maintainer in the dh_make created files, whats your comment on this? I could apply for being a maintainer on Debian if no other already do that. I can build AMD64 and i386 packages.

Well, Windows crapped out on my laptop last night, so I've decided to put Debian Etch on it.  I use C::B on all my Windows boxen, so I'm going to be needing it on my Linbox as well.  Last time I did Debian packaging was in the last millennium, but I'm a professional packager (MSI) by trade, so I'd like to give this a go.

No promises on timescales as of yet.  I'll post here when I've done something.  Also, it'll be i386 only for a while.

Hi Daniel - Your Suse rpm package that I downloaded (last week) seemed to install fine but in use, C::B crashes a lot. One of the developers (Byo) reckons he's now fixed that problem so I'd like to upgrade. This raises a question that I hadn't thought of before.... do you update the rpm package regularly? Or - if I re-installed from the Suse rpm, would I get exactly the same code that I've already got?

Also, is it necessary to uninstall before an upgrade? I don't fancy the prospect of losing all my settings etc.

There're three ebuilds in portage for Code::Blocks, all of them masked with ~, and the last one is a month old. Personally, I prefer to get it from SVN and compile it, after all it's a very straightforward procedure.

Steps here (http://wiki.codeblocks.org/index.php?title=Installing_Code::Blocks_from_source_on_Gentoo). Be sure to follow Option 2... you don't really want to compile RC2 :wink:

In very few steps:
Code
* svn checkout
* cd into directory
* ./bootstrap
* ./configure # maybe you want to give some options to this one
* make
* su -c 'make install'

And everytime you want to update it:
Code
* cd into directory
* su -c 'make uninstall'
* make clean
* make clean-zipfiles
* svn update
* ./bootstrap # I think it's not necessary, but I do it anyway
* ./configure
* make
* su -c 'make install'

The current .debs being offered on the nightly forum will not install on Dapper. The dependencies that are not being met are because of the version numbers of such things as gcc, etc. You will need to build CB from source.

Well, wx284 are not in the repos even for Feisty. To work with latest CB requiring wx284 one needs to

Code
1. add line
deb http://apt.tt-solutions.com/ubuntu/ dapper main
to /etc/apt/sources.list (replace dapper with edgy or feisty)
2. curl http://www.tt-solutions.com/vz/key.asc | sudo apt-key add -

Take a look at the opensuse buildservice: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/TheTuxKeeper/
here how to add the repo to yast, smart, ... : http://en.opensuse.org/Build_Service/User

You'll need the wxwidgets package from packman. you could use mine on the obs, it's the same as the one from packman, but I only take and use it to build/link codeblocks. i don't add patches or fix anything.

Hi!

I'm hosting slackware svn builds of codeblocks at my server. Due to the lack of slackware packages,
my server will build automatically checkout and upload the packages..

The packages are for Slackware 12

here is the link: http://www.polaco.pro.br/codeblocks

I use OpenSUSE 10.3. Last time I get error during launch codeblocks:
The program 'codeblocks' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 405 error_code 11 request_code 148 minor_code 5)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
   that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
   To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
   option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
   backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Before this time I didn`t have problems. I have installed last version from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/TheTuxKeeper/openSUSE_10.3/i586/  but getting the same error.
Please, help me.

Do you see that little edit box at the top-right of the page with a button labeled "Search" next to it?
Type "X Window System error" in that box and hit the button...

Hi, I was programming with Code::Blocks on Windows and I've really liked the IDE!I wanna continue programming now, when I use the more stable and better Linux Ubuntu 7.10.So, I've already said: my config is Linux Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibon.I've installed code::blocks from one package, and I get an error:
Code
codeblocks: error while loading shared libraries: libwx_gtk2u_aui-2.8.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
How to fix that?Please help, I wanna continue programming in a more stable OS than Windows, and I wanna continue my programming with code::blocks.I am a compleate noob :(

I wanna continue programming in a more stable OS than Windows

All OS's have their strengths and weaknesses. It's a fallacy to think that any OS is 'more stable' than any other. There may be particular areas where Windows is more vulnerable than Linux - but equally, there are areas where Windows shines and Linux sucks (hardware support being an obvious example).

Your choice of OS should be based on your target audience. If you're driven by the ideaology of open source programming; and if your customers are already using Linux; and if they're comfortable about using command lines / compiling from source etc then Linux is probably a good bet. On the other hand, if your target audience is used to the ease of Windows, then it would be a mistake to think you can convert them to a supposedly 'more stable' OS that will probably give them nothing but headaches. Similarly, if you're intending to target the business sector (where your apps will need to be installed & supported by IT professionals) you can bet your bottom dollar that they won't want to get involved with Linux (at least, not on the desktop).

Linux is strong in certain areas (e.g. server side) and it's starting to grow strong in other areas (e.g. multimedia) but it's not the right choice for everyone, so you need to choose it for the right reasons - not because people have told you it's 'more stable' (which it isn't).

[offtopic-answer to the johne53's reply]I will use Linux, because I want to develop 3D games with Irrlicht that can be compiled for all distros of Linux and all versions Windows.Linux is ideal for my target.I've already tested Linux and Windows - which one can use the RAM in a better way - Linux was better.Also, Linux doesnt have alot of viruses.That's why i've chousen Linux instead of Windows.

Yes, you are write, but I think the all things are linked - the hardware is created for Microsoft (if you get the point)...
And I am driven by the ideaology of open source programming!I am trying to host server for my games, so Linux is the OS for me.

Code
codeblocks: error while loading shared libraries: libwx_gtk2u_aui-2.8.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Maybe you need to install the wxWidgets library from http://wiki.wxpython.org/InstallingOnUbuntuOrDebian (http://wiki.wxpython.org/InstallingOnUbuntuOrDebian):
- add the repository:
Code
deb http://apt.wxwidgets.org/ gutsy-wx
- and the public key:
Code
wget -q http://apt.wxwidgets.org/key.asc -O- | sudo apt-key add -

I decided to change my repository for debian.

That means all former entries in "/etc/apt/sources.list" will not work anymore.

The reason is that I now build packages not only for "i386" (32-bit) systems, but also for "amd64" (64-bit systems), but based only on one suite (stable aka etch).

Please have a look for the new entries for "sources.list" on the starting page of my repository (see signature),

I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but I hope I make it a little bit more comfortable for all 64-bit debian users to work with C::B.

Edit:
The actual (and only) version of C::B in my repo is svn4845 at the moment.

   Hi,

   I was able to build an RPM for Mandriva 2006 just correcting the wxSleep stuff. Unfortunatelly I don't have place to store it but I can send to anyone who ask for.

Send it at ivshti@gmail.com , please
Thanks

Hi, i don't know if this is a C::B issue or a plugin issue.
When i want settin my Settings/Environmnet C::B crash.
I use the jens nightly builds so can't test it with the 8.02 *.deb's.
On a debian/lenny distro.

Do you have a crash-report inside your /tmp-directory ?
It should be named like "/tmp/codeblocks_dbgrpt-18802-20081125T120325/codeblocks.xml" (where the first number is the PID of crashed C::B and the second numner is the date and time of the crash).

Inside the xml-file the part beginning with "<stack>" is of interest (if it exists).

It would be nice if you would post it, or send it to me via mail or PM, so that I can have a look on it.

You can also try to remove (or better rename) your "default.conf"-file in "~/.codeblocks".
C::B will then create a new default configuration.

If you want to (have to) restore settings from the saved conf-file you can use "cb_share_config" (just type it in a console) to transfer sections to the newly created conf-file.

I made a C::B package for Porteus 2.1-32-bits; you can download it from here (http://wread.porteus.org/public/KDE-32bits/Development/CodeBlocks/)

Make a folder Codeblocks in "modules" and put the 4 downloaded xzm-files in it; activate them and you can start programming with DB...

I could not use what you posted.  First of all the download link requested me to supply an admin user and password.  This is not normal for a download.
