Copying code from Code::Blocks and GPL licensing issues
« on: May 20, 2008, 07:36:16 am »
Guys, I'm having a problem. I recently started a new project ( http://developer.berlios.de/projects/saya/ for the curious) and I need to use some code from C::B.

The problem is that my project is licensed as "GPLv3 or later". According to the repository, C::B is licensed as "GPLv3", it doesn't say "GPLv3 *ONLY*". It just says GPLv3.

Any idea on how to solve this problem? Please answer soon! (Hint: A quick one would be formally licensing it to me particularly as GPLv3 or later ;-) )

Thanks in advance.

Sincererly,
Rick.

Oh, I looked under http://gplv3.fsf.org/dd3-faq, and it says that if I want to release a project under "GPLv3 or later", I can "copy code under GPLv3". :)

Man, this legal stuff is hard.  :?

Hi rickg22,

I'm sure an agreement with C::B's team about licencing issue will be founded !

Just to tell that coding a cross-platform open-source video editor is a very good idea, because it's something missing in software world.

Good luck, then !

Rick, just grab the code you need.
And if you make loads of money with it, I 'll come back and sue you
Be patient!
This bug will be fixed soon...
