Change default workspace extension to .cbw
« on: June 09, 2007, 12:32:59 pm »
The extension for codeblocks projects is .cbp.
Therefore I think it is more intuitive to name default extension for workspaces .cbw instead of .workspace.
Of course keep .workspace as an alternative for backward-compatibility.
What do you think?

Sounds ok to me. Valid point, working solution, better for FAT systems, and may make extension handling easier at a distant time in the future.

Hi !

I had proposed that in that post with lots of answers as you can see .
As asked in the post, is it possible to add 'dll' to the extensions listed in the linker tab settings (as it is possible to link dlls with mingw) ?

It would things make more consistent. Backwards file compatibility is a piece of cake to do (but you might want to make it auto-rename the file extension to cbw when opening a .workspace file).

Cbw is already taken: http://filext.com/file-extension/cbw, but even though, it's much better than .workspace

So what? cbp is ALREADY taken, too! (CD Box Labeler Pro). I think being too scrupulous about extensions being taken, is just well, ridiculous.

I'm voting for wcb, it's not taken yet...

But it also breaks consistancy.  There are plenty of non-unique file extentions.  One example would be *.chm that i've seen used in a half dozen things.  Whether a 3 letter extention is already used by something obscure shouldnt effect the decision.
