Nightly Builds (on a daily basis)
« on: January 02, 2006, 09:48:03 pm »
From now on, in this part of the forum we will provide nightly builds.
Normally there will be only 1 build per 24 hours, maybe, just maybe, if some serious bugs have been fixed, there may be more then 1 build in a certain 24 hour time slot.

Some general information about the nightly builds can be found also here : http://www.codeblocks.org/nightly/

In this part of the forum, every day a new topic will be created, providing the link to the build. It will allow people to discuss their experience with the build. A list of 'popular' bugs will in the future be mentioned in those daily topics, together with which bugs have been fixed since the previous build. Therefor it is very important that for every bug people discover, they create a bug report at sourceforge , since the 2 pieces of input on what's fixed are :
- comments in svn from the developers
- closed bugreports

You can also subscribe to the following RSS feed which announces the new builds : http://www.codeblocks.org/nightly/CodeBlock_RSS.xml

And this is a direct link to all those nightly builds in the repository, you get them listed with the newest one on top : http://download.berlios.de/codeblocks/?C=M;O=D

What the future will bring :
- linux builds
- 'even more unofficial' nightly builds (containing already some community patches, which have not been reviewed yet -> don't bother the official dev's with side effects of those patches, contact the patch makers for that !!!)

kind regards,
Lieven

Lol, in the nightly builds page you haven't posted a link to the actual files :D
Thanks for all the help, Lieven :)
Be patient!
This bug will be fixed soon...

I find very good the idea to provide nightly builds. Anyway, I have a question. If this part of the forum will provide nightly builds, then Ceniza and Therion's SVN binary snapshots would be no more necessary, or?

Thank you.

So it seems like Therion and I are useless now :P

Oh, and I prefer killerbot's green stars :)

The others are not uselles yet
I don't do ansi (for the main builds, I'll try to be as official 'unoffcial' as I can be).

Things I need to crack now are :
- linux distribution (I can already build on my laptop and run it there)
- win98 problem that therion fixed
- things I forgot

Lieven

PS : the thread are copied somehow from a proven concept started by Peter(6), who did this for Firefox.

I have a small question concerning win98. GDB 6.3 does not work with win98 and to debug in C::B you need GDB 6.3. It seems to me that even if you build C::B for win98, a user could not debug. Or did I miss something?

sorry for beeing cumbersome again - but should the RSS feed items not link to the corresponding download link ?!?
it's somewhat useless to get a message "version xy is out , enjoy !" but don't get a download-link.

i assume, that is some bug with the RSS feed at the moment.

a link to the wx-dll should also be supplied side-by-side to the nightly build link.

Should we not make a part of the forum to just provide these ANSI SVN binary snapshots as there is one for the nightly builds? This would be useful for users who would like to download such a C::B binary. Personally, I find the post (the one of Therion) of not so easy access (e.g., where is it? Is there a new version?).

@killerbot

could you please insert the links to the postings in the nightly builds rss feed

for example:

normally this is also the link :

seems you are using a non conformant rss reader ??

Could you give it a try with sage plug-in in firefox, or just the build in in firefox ??

with sage it works -
but i would not say that other rss readers are nonconformant
it looks like Nightly Builds feed is only working with sage ...
have you tried with others ?
why do others not have any problems with almost all other feeds available in the internet ?
( just ideas )

sage is a little bit too small for my needs, it can't autoreload feeds,
doesn't save read/unread items settings over sessions ... [edit] obviously not true 8) [/edit]
i don't like to use it

I adjusted for yesterday's build, could you give it a try.

I only did the guid, since at Firefox forum they also do it like this, and those guys are standards adepts, so I trusted them ;-)

yes it works,

but to KISS you can remove these

and just use
instead.

i've tested with all available rss readers which i've here available (IE, Maxthon and Firefox)
with the following rss xml file.

From the RSS 2.0 specification

Quote
A frequently asked question about
s is how do they compare to
s. Aren't they the same thing? Yes, in some content systems, and no in others. In some systems,
is a permalink to a weblog item. However, in other systems, each
is a synopsis of a longer article,
points to the article, and
is the permalink to the weblog entry. In all cases, it's recommended that you provide the guid, and if possible make it a permalink. This enables aggregators to not repeat items, even if there have been editing changes.

seems to be written by the Sage dev's ;-) - it's the only rss reader i have available where this works !

[append]
possibly it has to do with the fact, that the other rss feeds which i use
are using this

...

interesting news anyways ...

I'd love it if the list of changes were included in the feed posts. I subscribe to the Firefox nightly builds and the changelog there is quite useful for deciding whether to get it or not. It saves that extra five seconds of going to the forum post =P
Cheers,
