update of codeblocks
« on: May 09, 2010, 09:42:27 pm »
it is very surprised to find that it is not updated over two years.

and even it is not well maintained because the problem that "build option" can't be resized is not resolved so far over at least 3 years.

very disappointed.

Have you tried a nightly build ? Here is the link on the most recent one (27 february 2010):
http://forums.codeblocks.org/index.php/topic,12098.0.html

The build option dialog box can be resized on my computer.

And if you read the forums, you will see that a release is currently in preparation.

Well, this is understandable. However, there are several realities to take into account:
1 - the developpers and contributors are doing the main developpment during their spare time. It means it is a hobby (like many open source projects by the way). In other words, the development of CodeBlocks will come after other priorities in life, such as Family, Work, Health, ...
2 - this is a totally free IDE, and a good one at that. A few years ago, this kind of tools were not at all available (you had to buy an expensive IDE - typically 2000 $ for basic editions - or to use a pirate copy...)
You cannot expect having everything (free + fast bug fixes + all imaginables features) without a trade off. The trade-off here is patience.
3 - you can always help in the development if you find it is too slow.

 I hope that helps !

Sebastien

Not sure what you mean, but this works for me just fine.

If you can't / won't be precise by exactly telling what version, OS etc. you are facing that problem you can't be helped. Other than that you increase the noise level in this forum which again steals our time for development.

Thank you for the information. but I can't find its linux version. could you please let me know where I can find the fixed version for Ubuntu? binary package or should be compiled manually?

Did you try help -> About? To find the version number and date build info.

Did you install the binary package?
Or did you compile Code::Blocks (manually) yourself?

I am answering your questions below.

Thank you for the information. but I can't find its linux version. could you please let me know where I can find the fixed version for Ubuntu? binary package or should be compiled manually?

Did you try help -> About? To find the version number and date build info.   Build: Sep 13 2009 wx2.8.10 and Code::Blocks 8.02

Did you install the binary package? Yes, from software Center of Ubuntu 10.04
Or did you compile Code::Blocks (manually) yourself? No.

Our time machine is broken and we can not go back in time to change the 8.02 release.
I suggest trying an nightly build or waiting till the next release.

Edit: Ubuntu 10.4 is new enough that you may need to compile from source code.

FYI: Your OS is Ubuntu with the version of 10.4 to use in future questions. I am a windows user so the links above should be read to confirm they are the right directions.

Edit: The use of the word "it" can be very misleading. I thought you needed the version of Code::Blocks; but the other user asked you the OS name and version.

Not necessary. Jen's (kindly provided) packages work perfectly. You do have to get the latest wxWidgets packages, though - use the official apt repository (apt.wxwidgets.org), and the "jaunty-wx" distribution (it hasn't been updated for the last two Ubuntu versions, but the 9.4 packages work with 10.4).
